Disney+ Question About Disney+ TV Shows

I've noticed for a while now that some TV shows (especially newer ones) will download at 1280x0720 and some older ones download at 1920x1080.

My question is regarding a show that mostly downloads at 1920x1080 but the last few episodes are 1280x0720. The show in question is Tron: Uprising, which is a 10+ year-old show.

Has it been explained "why" some shows are downloaded in different resolutions? Are episodes being stored on different servers?

(I'm not complaining, this is purely out of curiosity)

Each individual video file (episode, movie) has several decryption keys. Each decryption key will decrypt a particular resolution of each individual file.

StreamFab is able to trick the Content Decryption Module into giving it a decryption key, as long as the CDM is allowed to give said key to the browser so it can play the file.

StreamFab then stores this decryption key on their server in a massive database. Next time someone asks to decrypt that same video at the same resolution, StreamFab can just use that key instead of trying to trick the CDM into coughing up the key again. That means even if StreamFab can no longer trick the CDM, it can still decrypt the files as long as the key hasn't changed.

Now in the case of Disney+, the CDM can only be tricked into giving up the key for 720p and lower. For 1080p or 4K, the CDM will say "Wait a minute! If you want to play this at that resolution, you need some closed hardware that has high security that can't be compromised easily (Like an Android TV or Phone). You are on a browser so i won't give you the 1080p+ key. Sorry"

Obviously it's just an explanation and not exactly what's happening...

Now there are very skilled people in this series of tubes that are able to still trick the CDM by either using special hardware or other means and it will give up the higher resolution keys.

Since StreamFab does not possess that expertise, they can only extract the 720p keys.

The geniuses that are able to get the higher resolution keys are typically members of piracy groups and they share those keys within themselves. One such group took it upon themselves to decrypt the majority of video files available on Disney+, starting with all things Marvel and Star Wars. I don't remember the exact date given but IIRC it was May/June 2022.

All those keys were stored in a database, and said database was leaked and posted on Github. Streamfab stumbled upon that database and imported it into their own database.

What this means is if the database contained all the keys up to say June15th 2022 and that meant it had the keys to Season 1 Episodes 1 to 10 of Show X, and then episode 11 was added to Disney+ on June 16th 2022, you would get Episodes 1-10 at 1080p and Episode 11 at 720p if you tried to download it today.

Pretty long winded i know but this question has been asked countless times and there are still members who don't understand this was a one time thing and are demanding StreamFab "fix" 1080p for newer stuff. Next time this happens, i will point them to this post.
