I am fully aware that CDM and a gazillion other issues need to be addressed but i just want to make a suggestion and be done with it. No need for replies.
vBulletin used to be the very best. It has, however, been stale for a while. Yes the person(s) who installed/configured it here did a poor job but the software is lacking.
The best forum software, IMHO, is Xenforo. The self-hosted license is a measly $160.
I would love for StreamFab to switch to XenForo. It would fix a ton of problems with the attaching of logs, screenshots being resampled so you can't really see the error message, etc...
Obviously, you can import all the vBulletin content so that is not an issue.
On the other hand, if you want to bring the duplicate posts down, consider using Discourse. Also very very good forum software but the way threads look might confuse people who have never seen it. It has a feature that will show you similar posts as you are creating yours so it may discourage you to post something new and just add to that existing one.
I'd be happy either way. Anything is better than this implementation of vBulletin where the thread read status is stored in cookies instead of the server .
Anyway, like i said, this is just something to think about... No need for back and forth. You may not agree with my choice of software and that is fine because we all have preferences but i think everyone can agree this install of vBulletin is lacking...
