    Selection of default audio track

    Hi!

When downloading streams from VIP sites like Amazon, Streamfab always makes German the default language of the resulting .mp4 file.
In DVDFab (let's say DVD Ripper) there is a small triangle to slect the default language. Streamfab also has this triangle, but it does not effect the output.
Any chance that this will be fixed?
    Thx

    Jerry

There is a small triangle you can adjust. And you can set the pre-select audio in the Settings panel.

If you still have the problem, please specify the video, and provide related screenshot and log file to better check, thanks.

      Thanks for the fast reply!
I've tried both the triangle as well as the preferences:

However in the resulting file, German is always default

      Sorry for the German UI-Language!

      Any hints?

      Thx

Default Track and Track Order are 2 different things.

While it's true that StreamFab used to put whatever you selected as the Default track as the 1st track (please put this back), if your playback software is working and configured properly, it should work the way StreamFab is doing it right now.

I know there is a bug in MPC-HC and MPC-BE with regards to the default audio track but it does work correctly in VLC.

I have a suspicion that you may be overwriting the Default Track Selection in your VLC.

Please make sure this setting is empty if you want it to work with the current StreamFab files:

Well it is not a fault of VLC. The behaviour is the same in windows media player, my TV and an aditional media box I've tried.
When you look at the codec information you see that German is before English:

In the past I had the same issue with the DVDRipper. It also had the small triangle to select the default audio track but it didn#t find the way into the file. Some day this had been fixed in an update and ever since it works like a charm.

I think that there is the same "bug" in Streamfab. I guess it just doesn't show, because usually you want to stick with your default language.

Sigh...I don't know if you are using Google Translate and it is not translating properly but did you try what i told you? I didn't say it's a VLC bug but a VLC Setting.

As a test, i downloaded a movie and selected English and French as Audio. I set the French as the Default. Track 1 is English and Track 2 is French.

Loading it in VLC, the French audio is playing. If i then set my preferred audio language to English, it loads the English.

            So, again, with this file:

Thanks for your effort jpp72; I understand you well and I do not use google translate. Please do not focus too much on VLC. This was just an example. As I wrote the default audio track is always German because it is coded as stream 1. Indepent of settings or device. Also outside VLC.

But it is interesting that in your case there is the default setting which even works with stream 2. All devices I have use stream 1 as the default audio to play.

Thanks for the hint. I tried this as well but still no change :-(
Streamfab outsmarts the language settings of the website.

does it change if you set the Language to english - settings - general - Language (English (United States) ??

When you look at the MP4 file in MediaInfo, do you see if the Default flag is set? There may be a bug on the MP4 side because i use MKV as the container (which is superior).

I was mistaken when i said MPC-HC and MPC-BE didn't respect the Default flag. They do. It's just the settings do nothing and you need to use the settings in the splitters/filters instead of the program settings.

With a dual audio MKV where the 2nd audio is set as Default, It is working for me in VLC, MPC-HC, MPC-BE, and Kodi. I did not try with Plex as i already have it in my library with the proper Audio language (i don't like dubbed audio)

You should definitely test by using MKV instead of MP4 to see if that is the problem and then StreamFab can fix it sometime in 2027.

But it would be nice if they made it like it was before where the Default (triangle) track was set as the 1st one. I am not sure when it broke but it broke in version 5.x.x.x so it has been quite a while

I think the difference in our cases is that you have .mkv and my output is .mp4.
I know from the past, that .mkv is better to control than .mp4.
But Streamfab doesn't provide the option to save as .mkv.

Yeah, that was an overlap. I came to the same conclusion, that the .mkv probably makes the difference. Unfortunately Streamfab doesn't do .mkv and I'd prefer the one-stop-shop solution.
However I'm quite sure, that with a small tweak Streamfab could also solve that for the .mp4 output. Some flag seems to be coded wrongly.
