The new version of StreamFab 6.2.1.5 came out and I'm trying to install it on my machines. The first two had no problem, but on the 3rd I forgot to exit StreamFab first and the installer popped up and then just crashed. Now I am unable to get the StreamFab installer to run on that machine. It pops up and asks for the UAC elevation, then the StreamFab installer window briefly shows (for less than a second) and then vanishes. This problem does not occur for the other products like DVDFab. I have followed the uninstall process, but the offline installer still will not run.Install log shows no error and is attached. I've also attached a screenshot of the logged error in the event viewer.

I went back through my offline installers. 6.2.1.4 wouldn't run either, but strangely enough I was able to install 6.2.1.3. The installers for 6.2.1.4 and 6.2.1.5 still do not run after successfully installing 6.2.1.3. The live update will not download either, it immediately fails without trying.

This is why I use StreamFab to download as my internet is not good enough to stream reliably in real-time.I tried restarting when it initially did not work, and again after the install and again after the successful install of 6.2.1.3. The installer for 6.2.1.5 will not run on this machine.

Never use the update function within the program. Please note the topic on the start page regarding reinstallation.

StreamFab Offline Installer crashes

I don't know how you got the idea to run the offline installer while Streamfab is still running. It's just rubbish!

We gave you instructions.

Step 1) Completely uninstall the program, removing every bit of residue.

Step 2) Just reinstall it using the downloaded file. It's very easy. It's basically two steps.

I suspect you didn't do step 1 of the cleanup correctly at the beginning and there were still residues.

Well I said in the beginning that running the installer with Stream Fab running was not intentional. I have it installed and running now, I just mentioned at the end that running the installer with Stream Fab running is what started this mess. Just running the installer, not actually trying to install it. Never gets to the countdown or anything. Clearly some kind of bad code in there that doesn't play nice. It could just terminate the program, or give a warning, but instead it crashes and mucks things up before you have a chance to even start or cancel.

Again, I have it figured out and working now.

Uninstalled the 6.2.1.3 x64 (not fully, only via the uninstaller), downloaded the 6.2.1.5 x86, and interestingly enough it installed fine.
I then uninstalled the x86 (again only by uninstaller) and then tried the same 6.2.1.5 x64 installer again and now it magically works.
Something definitely wonky in the installer code, but I have 6.2.1.5 installed now, so whatever.

As a curious test, I tried reproducing the same result and it was easily reproduceable. It seems if the offline installer is run when StreamFab is still running, the installer crashes and messes with something that won't let it run again afterwards no matter how much I try even without StreamFab running or installed anymore.

I'd have to put a big part of the blame on the StreamFab developer, in this case. No well written installer would allow you to run the installer while the program is already running. I sometimes have a nasty habit of forgetting to check some minor programs I run to see whether they are running or not when I start their installer for an update. That's mainly because I have their taskbar icons hidden. Well, I immediately get yelled at by the installer. That's the way it should be with SF, as well.

I agree with you that it is poorly programmed. But we both know that will never change :-)
