11 days ago: Now TV, impossible 1080p ..

It was never possible to dl better than 720p from NOW (and WOW or Canal+)
and it was never claimed that more is possible:

Download movies and shows from NOW TV in lossless 720p resolution and AAC 2.0 audio track. {source}

AFAIK it’s not offered in 1080p with Windows Browser

To add a bit of balance, I’ve had mixed results with 1080p content so far:

These bits worked:
Harry Hill New Bits & Greatest Hits
The Idol
Brassic

These bits downloaded in “360”
The Comeback
White Lotus

This failed:
Girls

I’ve only been using the Now module for the last 2 months but I have read before that not everything on Now is downloadable.

Before this 1080 upgrade my plan was to subscribe to HBO Max at some point, so I’ve not tried to download anything HBO before the update but I’m already wondering if even with the change I’ll need to try HBO Max.

That said, I’m now tempted by the current Now Cinema offer so I’d be curious to find out people’s experience with that and whether you can download everything.

The Now module also seems a bit temperamental so I only usually download 5-10 episodes maximum a day before it starts failing and I leave it for another day.

I might have just been unlucky for a couple of days, so I’ll update this if I learn more.

I’ve had no luck at all with Streamfab analyzing anything more than 720p.

I have it set to the highest possible, but it automatically downloads anything at 360p.

I have tried Prisoner, something another Streamfab user on Reddit showed that they can get at 1080p through Streamfab.

I’ve also tried the Iris Affair, Under Salt Marsh, From and all are the same for me. 360p Automatically, 720p if I change it.

I pay for Ultra Boost to get more than 1080p just to be sure it wasn’t my account, reinstalled. Logged in, logged out but still nothing.

neo_ukss you need boost subscription for 1080p and ultra boost for 4K (which you won’t be able to dl with SF anyway, at least not now). Talk about rip-off Britain… 🤷‍♂️

edit: I wonder if UB is a different entitlement “path” to B, but as I said above: without logs, what are devs to do if, say, it’s working for them… how are they going to figure out what’s different between their setup and yours?

I originally had only subscribed with just Boost for 1080p, but when the Download wasn’t working, I upgraded to Ultra Boost just for testing purposes.

I had a good conversation about this on the Streamfab Sub reddit. Another user kindly tested a certain program I was having trouble downloading and it worked fine for them, 1080p and everything.

He added a screenshot and all the download information.

They updated using the .offline installer from the forum, I updated using the inbuilt updater via the programme.

My next step is to clear the cache as someone suggested that, failing that try using a completely new Now TV account. Apart from that, I’m out of ideas.

neo_ukss so what’s stopping you from using the offline installer and either overwriting the current install or installing to a separate directory?

Btw, the updater was always iffy…

neo_ukss Have you tried non-HBO content? e.g. since my post above I’ve had 1080p success with:

Sweetpea
Frayed

And failed with:

The Jinx
Allen vs Farrow

(both HBO documentaries)

I was wary about signing up for Now for a long time based on comments on this forum that not all the content was downloadable, so it might not be quite as clear cut as “HBO bad” “non-HBO fine” (e.g. The Idol which I mentioned in my previous post above is HBO) but I think that’s a big part of it.

On the Boost/Ultra Boost thing, I’m using Boost.

I’d be curious if you’ve tested any of the content I’ve mentioned in either of my posts above.

The reason why I posted in the first place was because @0xFeedBeef seemed about to subscribe to Now and I wanted to throw in a note of caution as the entire Now catalogue looks great but I’m not sure we’ll be able to get a lot of the more famous stuff (which I’m fine with as there was enough non-famous bits that I was interested in which made it worth me signing up for 6 months, which is usually the minimum with Now offers).

0xFeedBeef Hand on heart honesty, my tech knowledge drew a blank at where to download from! I know it is an offline installer but couldn’t find anything to explain how that works.

Installing into a different directory is an idea I’ll try now with one of the linked installers

Sky West Nothing HBO yet, I haven’t taken the HBO subscription out because I can’t download anything yet and I have been downloading HBO series from Amazon.

I’ll try some of the shows you’ve tried above after I try another install and let you know how I get on.

I tried Harry Hill this afternoon and it flat out just said 720p.

devs will need logs if you want stuff fixed, I very much suspect… The only thing that stands between your failing download and devs’ “can’t reproduce” is your log 🤷‍♂️

neo_ukss I was a bit confused when you said “I haven’t taken the HBO subscription” yet as I signed up just before HBO was launched in the UK but I can now see that Now have split “Entertainment” as one option and you can have “Entertainment & HBO” for more. I’ve got both but it does make your 1080p issues more confusing as it obviously isn’t down to you trying HBO only content.

My steps are the same as @neo_ukss post above, except I search for particular TV shows rather than picking them from the “top selections” front screen.

I’ve attached three logs:
1) Sarah Silverman - Someone You Love which downloaded in 1080p

Do we also need to raise a ticket with StreamFab’s support, or will you pass on the information to the developers @0xFeedBeef?

I’d also be curious whether @Germania has any knowledge on this, as they usually know the history of most issues on this forum, so might know more about my vague memory of there being posts saying that only certain titles in the Now catalogue have ever been downloadable.

I have reinstalled using both of the links you’ve highlighted.

I’ve just changed the install directory.

Cleared the Cache.

Paid for a new subscription on another account and still nothing.

I’ve tried a reinstall, a log out, log in. Deleted the Cache folders and tried another Now TV account and I’m still getting the same issues so I’m confused myself too.
