Can't Run as Administrator or Change TEMP/LOG folder locations

I’m trying to change the TEMP and LOG folder locations for StreamFab. When I do it says I don’t have permission.

When I try to run StreamFab as an Administrator it never loads. “Not Responding”.

I’ve tried uninstall/reinstall and it doesn’t help.

Then you need permission for the folder/drive
where you want to create them.
However, this has nothing to do with StreamFab.

Try to create the Folder before outside SF ..
.. if required you need write access to the place

Germania Thank you for the reply. I have permission to create/delete/modify folders where I’d like the TEMP and LOG folders to be. Yet, StreamFab says “Failure creating files, please make sure you have the permission, or set a new directory.”

Somehow, StreamFab changed my TEMP and LOG folders to an external drive I have connected (D:). I am trying to change it back to the TEMP and LOG folders in the C:Program Files/DVDFab/StreamFab/temp and log folders that were created when it originally installed.

So this is 100% a StreamFab problem.

By default you have no write access to C:\Program Files\DVDFab\StreamFab\temp

“change it back” is also nonsense .. because SF default is in your Documents Folder !

I used the free Revo Uninstaller to completely remove StreamFab and all of it’s files from my computer. Rebooted. Removed all external drives. Performed a clean reinstall. Below is a screenshot from the Settings menu on StreamFab that shows the where the LOG and TEMP folders were installed by default.

Germania is correct you cannot write to that location in user mode, you must elevate to admin.

What you should have done is create the folder you want in the root of C: or in your user profile folder and then point SF there. Then you would not have had to re-install.

did you run the offline installer as admin…this helps with permission issues.
i have my temp/cache folder set to separate drive and x/sfab folder along with my downloads folder as x/hdvids…this works well for my win11 setup

also after multiple install/uninstalls, run SFC/ scannow from terminal as admin.

simchris Thanks for the idea. I did not run the installer as an admin. I’ll try that if I have further problems.

The program files directory is write protected though, so that could be why? I haven’t had the same issue as you, but the default location is documents\streamfab\streamfab

As I already wrote, this is the default setting ..
.. for example, by default you cannot create a text file in
(or copy into) this directory or subdirectory

I admit that my second response was not particularly friendly,
but when a newly registered user claims that this Windows
standard "is 100% a StreamFab problem” that is simply untrue.
