How to make the app just DISAPPEAR! (Windows 11)

The app might be running but if you want it to disappear just follow these steps. Want to get it back? Well, you gotta run the launcher for that!

Maybe it works in multiple modules, maybe just Netflix.

When clicking on a video and the program analyzes, it then gives you a download window.
Press your ESC key.
(I am so used to pressing ESC in a web browser when I didn’t mean to click a series, I just inadvertently did so in SF).

Now, where did the program go? Alt Tab cannot find it. Searching the task bar cannot find it.
So I figured I must have closed the program. NOPE. It’s still running.

To get it back you need to go back to your start menu or taskbar shortcut and load it again. Only, this time it does not go through the Authorizing phase, it goes right back to the program. But all of your open tabs are blank and nonresponsive. You need to close them and load them up again.

EDIT — even on the main screen, pressing ESC makes the app DISAPPEAR. No need to analyze anything!

Like I say, the tabs then go blank/dead when you relaunch the app.

MrGrackle Thanks for the random ESC presses. That would have annoyed me if I had ran into it. I really don’t see the value in having ESC map to ‘send app to tray and nerf open modules’…

I thought I would spend some time on this but found if I hit the escape key, yes, SF itself disappears, but it shows in the taskbar.
So you might want to check there?

That area of the taskbar that I only go to in order to eject a USB device, and nothing else?
LOL. Or, D’oh.
Because all the icons are folded into one, I would have had to click the ^ to see it.

When I hit escape it also goes away but I can still see it in the taskbar.

I think the main issue with this is why?
Why pressing esc makes SF do what it does.
They removed other key inputs but have this?
Bring back where we can easily bring up SF internal chromium browser.
And yes I know last it was tried inputting the address to chrome extensions and installing an extension will bring up the internal browser, so maybe best they don’t add back the key combination but I see NO need or use of pressing esc and have SF do what it does let alone really why have any effect on SF.

Yeah, I discovered this by accident a few weeks ago that hitting ESCAPE will collapse StreamFab to the Systray in Windows 11 (I was trying to hit ESCAPE to close a dialog, silly me - SF was “thinking” too long so I hit ESCAPE again and then it closed the dialog AND collapsed SF!)

As to WHY it’s there? My only guess is “boss mode” - to quickly hide SF if someone walks past your screen - like Tetris had (you could toggle to a static image of a spreadsheet from the game, lol). But I don’t think any is using SF at work so it’s a mystery as to why this is present.

I’m not a fan of this behavior and wish there as a setting to disable it completely - put it somewhere under “System Behavior”…

@Wilson.Wang Please ask your developers to remove the feature (?) where the “Esc” key sends the app to the tray.

If you want to keep that functionality, either:

Make it optional via settings like mentioned. (Like @DarkSkies mentioned)
Fix the bug where open modules cannot be used after the window is restored. (As @MrGrackle mentioned)

THIS. Yes, restoring the app kills all open tabs in the app. So Esc might be a feature, but being unable to resume the tabs is definitely a glitch.

Esc will be disabled at main window, and enabled at sub window.

Have not given it a try yet, but 7018 is said to disable that key. Closing this thread for now. If the tabs are broken after restoring program after it goes to task tray, that’s a different issue.
I have program set to close when I click close, as do probably most people.
