Failed to obtain the decryption key (see test version, Best Answer)

I seem to be unable to download anything from Fandango At Home as of today. Worked fine yesterday. I tried both 7.0.1.9 for Mac and 7.0.2.0 for Windows, but both give me a failed to obtain the decryption key error.

Is it working for anyone else?

Germania Okay, that movie does download for me too. I’ll try a purchased movie and see if it works. The error occurred for several TV shows I attempted downloading. Actually, one episode in the middle of a season did successfully download, but everything else failed.

I have no purchased titles - and no payment info in Fandango account
(I only pay for providers that offer my native language)

Perhaps 0xFeedBeef or any other user with purchased titles can test ..

Have you tried a smaller resolution ?

Germania Thanks! I tried both HD and UHD. I’ll check and see if lower resolution makes a difference.

Germania Afraid that didn’t work either. I tried selecting the lowest resolution on a newer 4k movie and also tried an older movie that is only available in SD. Both failed.

FWIW, I’m able to play the titles fine in a web browser and in the app on my TV.

As of 04-09-2026 I am getting an error “Failed to obtain the decryption key, please contact us for assistance” when i try to download anything from Fandango. Is this a new issue?

Yep, same problem. Have tried rebooting system, but still unable to download purchased movie since update to 7.0.2.0
7.0.1.9 worked fine (anyway to go back to 7.0.1.9)

dave58 Not sure that would help, as 7.0.1.9 (for Mac) was working fine for me yesterday but isn’t today.

Let’s encourage those who use and have access to Fandango paid movies to say, “Yes, it works,” or “No,” with a short description of issues if not working.

I also have no paid movies on Fandango to test myself. Would going back to SF Windows version 7019 help or not?
Or did Fandango make changes to cause issues with SF?

Stan001 I don’t use the free movies, but I do have hundreds of purchased movies through Fandango. Prior to the latest 7.0.2.0 update, those were working just fine, both analyzing and downloading. Over the past week I downloaded dozens of them. Yesterday though, after updating to 7.0.2.0, I can still analyze the movies without issue, but I cannot download them anymore. I just get the error “Failed to acquire decryption key”.

Lancer955 Further update. I rolled back to 7.0.1.9 that was working 2-3 days ago. It now is not working either. My guess is something on Fandango’s end changed, at least for purchased movies. Will probably have to wait for devs to release a fix.
