You “buy” a movie on a digital storefront, the licensing deal expires, and suddenly that film vanishes from your library. Apple is better than most, but they aren’t immune.

I spent my Tuesday morning running some tests on our latest release. Our devs have been working overtime to ship this—specifically the new feature for downloading purchased Apple TV content. This wasn’t just a “task” on a board. We really hope this update shows that we’re listening. Here is the no-BS walkthrough on how to use StreamFab to pull your purchased Apple TV content before it disappears.

Get into the Apple TV Module
Open StreamFab and hit the Apple TV icon under VIP Services. Don’t bother searching through the generic “Popular sites” list; go straight to the source.
Sign In
Log into your account. We use an internal browser to handle the handshake. It’s the only way to let the platform know you actually have the rights to the file.
The Search Workaround
Here’s a pro tip: Sometimes the internal search is finicky. If you search for something like Godzilla x Kong and it says “isn’t available”, don’t panic.

Click “Top Results”.If that still fails, find the URL in a regular browser (like Chrome or Safari), strip out the country code (the /us/ or /jp/ part), and paste that direct link into StreamFab.

Analyze and Strip DRM
Once you click the video, StreamFab starts “analyzing”. This isn’t just loading the page—it’s identifying the manifest files and the encryption keys.
Choose Your Quality (The Important Part)
This is where the platform tries to throttle you. Don’t let them.

Video: Select H265 if you want to save space without sacrificing clarity. If you’ve got the hardware, toggle Dolby Vision or HDR10+.

Resolution: Don’t settle for 720p. If the 2160p (4K) stream is available, take it.

Audio: Grab the Atmos or EAC3 tracks. Anything less is just a waste of your speakers.

you can delete or edit the country code in the URL, and paste it to StreamFab, such as:

If you have the access to this purchased movie, StreamFab can analyze it.

Execute
Hit “Download Now”. You’ll see the progress in the “Downloading” tab. In my test, a 4K feature was pulling at around 1.54 MB/s—not NASA speeds, but solid enough for a stable, high-bitrate rip.

Here’s my two cents.

I launch iTunes, login,
Search on click a movie, right click show in store
Then right click share copy link
Paste it into chrome or Firefox.
Then get that link and paste it into streamfab browser or on some systems it will do it automatically.
I keep that link on my clipboard as you have to relaunch streamfab to download another one. So if you want Dolby Vision and HDR10+ you need to do it again.

There were a few saying you should get access to rentals, but it’s questionable, and it might also be that not many rent.
So we could finally know when more users ask.

In the end no way will be easy, I guess, but at least many are getting most, if not all, of their purchased items downloaded from Apple TV.

Stan001 I’m not sure what it takes to even watch the iTunes extras on a PC. The internet says that extras are not available for any movies that are ported over from Movies Anywhere, nor are they available for rentals. Some reports say that you can watch the extras on a PC - but others say you have to be on an apple device to watch the extras.

Update: It might require the Apple TV App from the Windows Store to view the extras on Windows. I’ve never bothered to install that given I use iTunes half a dozen times a year at the most.

I don’t rent and download (seems a bit slim shady) so I didn’t try that.

I tried on a movie I purchased directly in iTunes - Mad Max. It will bring up the iTunes Extra player, but the links to all of the extra content has the 🚫 icon over each video. (Screen grab would not capture the icon)

Right clicking the iTunes Extras image and copying the link doesn’t work. If you paste it in a browser, it just wants to take you back to iTunes app. And the SF browser can’t parse it.

I had the same lack of success on all other purchased content - so am tending to believe it won’t work from a PC.

Yeah I don’t know.
Users can keep trying things, is all they can do.

If Apple only wants their content available from the app, then that’s the way it is.
It was an amazing thing that their is a way to get most purchased content downloaded now.

I am sure there may be other providers you can’t get extras or bonus material.
I know because I use them that both Amazon and Disney+ you can.

Users need to be happy with what they get, 1080p from most sites and more 4K sites then ever thought.

Streamfab is working on many things and don’t want to say until they sure they can give what they say.

How many predicted or expected Peacock in 4k?

Ok this is how to get it for Apple TV+ subscriptions but it might be able to be applied to streamfab’s workflow as I don’t know how they do it.

To get the required Apple TV playback headers:

Open: https://tv.apple.com
Sign into your Apple account.
Open DevTools: - Chrome/Edge: F12 - Safari: Develop → Show Web Inspector
Go to: - Network tab
Start the movie playback for The Garfield Movie (2024).
Filter requests by: playback or MZPlay. You’ll see a request to: https://play.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZPlay.woa/hls/playback Open it and copy these headers: media-user-token authorization x-apple-store-front cookie origin referer user-agent

The important one is usually: media-user-token You can then reuse them in cURL/Postman. In Chrome: - Right click request - Copy → Copy as cURL That gives you the fully working authenticated request automatically.

And then you submit

Open the page in a browser and inspect the HTML or network requests.
Search for: adamId or: 1744217240
Once found, use the Adam ID in the lookup API: https://itunes.apple.com/lookup?id=1744217240
Then use that same Adam ID in the playback POST request: { “salableAdamId”: 1744217240 }

There is no direct mathematical conversion from: umc.cmc.4si7hhlswcdl4ys5h8ozmm53q to: 1744217240 You must extract the Adam ID from the page metadata or API responses.

It might just not be available in streamfab’s user interface yet. And chapters are missing for some reason even though Apple has chapters for movies.

Same can be said for 3D movies. If the assets are there then this api call should be able to grab it as well.

This is theoretical based on people documenting how they use the API’s. This has not been tested by me.

This is a test movie. It doesn’t apply so testing it won’t work.
