Kindle for Win11?

Will BookFab work with the new Kindle for Windows 11? I can no longer download books on Kindle for PC, and Amazon is forcing users to upgrade to the new Kindle version.

The PC version of Amazon Kindle is now disabled by amazon. We are all forced to download and install the windows store version of the Kindle app.

It’s okay if your answer is that you are aware and that you are working on a fix…. but you should stamp and make it easy to read somewhere on your website, pinned and easy to find, that your software for the time being does not work for kindle.

You should also block this and make it clear that this is the case. There are people who only need and use this single feature. At the very least you should patch book fab with a notice in the instructions, because it is confusing to get linked to the download for kindle for PC when we all know it no longer works. You are not communicating this clearly enough.

An estimate of how long you think this will take would be appreciated, and if you know that this has blocked your functionality permanently, then you should offer refunds. I personally am willing to wait IF its fixable, but I would have appreciated that it be communicated instead of me trying to troubleshoot and figure this out only to find out for myself what is occurring.

I got about as far as I can go. I suspect Bookfab will need to be updated to authorize through the new kindle app instead of the legacy app.

Get app from Microsoft Store.
Sign-in once installed.
Download desired books.
(Note: If your internet connection is not perfectly stable, the app tends to think you are not connected to the network. You might need to reset your network or close/reopen the app a few times until it allows you to sync.)
Once you have all books downloaded. Close the app.
Launch Bookfab.
Point Bookfab to the new kindle content folder. (You will need to enable view hidden files in file explorer.)

C:\Users\“username”\AppData\Local\Packages\AMZNKindle.AmazonKindleReadingApp_m1sc522ngdk36\LocalState\Classic\Content

It’s probably easiest to open up file explorer and in the directory bar (not the search bar) type %localappdata% then navigate to Packages and drill down to the content folder as shown above.

Close Bookfab.
Launch the new Kindle app.
Launch Bookfab.
I can see all of the books ready to decrypt. I can start a decryption. After about 15 minutes it tells me Decryption failed and tells me to close and re open the apps. (No change after restart)

Hopefully this helps lead to a solution. In the meantime I was still able to use the Legacy Kindle App (pointing Bookfab back to the original kindle folder) to decrypt some new books I purchased. I do not believe this will work after June 30th.

Just to followup The latest update for Bookfab should solve the issue though you may need to remove everything kindle and bookfab, Clean install the new kindle app, download some books. clean install bookfab and follow the normal setup process. Should work.

Thank you for your continued work on BookFab.

I tested BookFab v1.2.3.9 (2026/07/03), but unfortunately I’m still unable to decrypt newly purchased Kindle books.

My environment is:

Windows 11
BookFab v1.2.3.9 (2026/07/03)
Kindle for PC v2.9.1 (71006)

Here is what I observed:

BookFab successfully detects all downloaded Kindle books.
However, when I click Decrypt & Convert, it reports a license/authorization error, so decryption never starts.
New Kindle books cannot be downloaded with the old Kindle for PC because Amazon forces the new Windows Kindle app . As instructed, I installed Kindle for reading or such program (this one is not for Windows 11 only) and it is now seen on my computer as Kindle Legacy with black&white icon😅. I found the newly purchased books still can be opened and read normally in Kindle Legacy, but BookFab still reports the same license/authorization error.

I noticed another user suggested uninstalling everything and performing a clean installation of both the new Kindle app and BookFab.

Before I do that, could you please clarify:

Does BookFab v1.2.3.9 officially support the new Windows 11 Kindle app from Microsoft Store?
Is Kindle Legacy also supported?
Should decryption work with both, or only with the new Windows 11 Kindle app?
If this is a known issue, is another update currently being prepared?

If necessary, I’d be happy to provide log files or any additional information for troubleshooting.

Also, would the BookFab Calibre plugin work in this situation, or would it encounter the same authorization issue?

Updating to BookFab 1.2.4.0 alone did not solve the problem while using Kindle Legacy.

However, after switching to the new Microsoft Store Kindle app, downloading the book there, and opening it once before running BookFab, decryption worked successfully.
