Networking is NFS better for movie playback than CIFS?

I have a windows server currently, but I've considered building a linux box, or getting a synology, both of which would enable me to use NFS for networking.
Is there any technical advantage for performance for NFS vs CIFS (windows SMB file sharing)?

If you have gigabit wired network, there is no need to choose between NFS and SMB, both should work without problem.
