Give me a quick low down on 3d BR discs

I know 3d works by seperation of the visual field and the glasses process the colors to give that cool depth feeling.

but what I need to know for new tech

will 3d BR work on an hdtv or only the new 3d tvs?

if the visual field is altered on the disc shouldnt it work on the hdtv device?

I looked for an article but only was finding now you can watch Avatar over and over the way you really wanted to

answered my questions found some details on 3d blu ray and the 3 style of glasses and emitters... how they shutter each eye etc...
