    i7 6700 with SSD can reencode (70%) 31GB to 22.5GB in 12 minutes

WOW, I am impressed by this performance! It used to take about 1hr 45minutes for the oldie 4th gen i5, 10GB DDR3, SSD.

Bought this Dell XPS 8900 (i7 6700, Nvidia745GTX, 16GB DDR4 2133 PC1700, 1TB HD) for $699 on Black Friday. Tried to optimize it the last few days, swapped out the HD with SDD. With regular HD, it took 17 minutes to re-encode this same Jur assic World movie.

Cannot wait to see how much it can improve with 32GB RAM!

Very cool. The SSD should make a big difference also.

I wouldn't expect too much of a bump adding memory:

32 GB RAM improves the performance by 1 to 2 minutes, SSD by 5 minutes over HD.

Recently built a system with AMD 1080x CPU. With regular HD drive, it takes about 30 minutes for re-encoding 32GB to 25 GB, about 72% compression. Replace the HD drive with Plextor M.2 NVMe, reduces to just 15 minutes. 15 minutes is tolerable, I guess I don't need to get a discrete GPU like Nvidia 1080 ti.

Oops, it is AMD 1800X CPU not 1080x, I think the Plextor m.2 NVMe made the biggest performance difference.

Picked up a cheap $430 Gigabyte Nvidia 1080 GPU from Ebay by Newegg recently, the time trims to 7 minutes. Very impressive, 7 minutes!!!
