How to Overclock Phenom II quad core?

I'm hoping I'm not violating any rules or anything here. I know its the general chat area and I think this subject (atleast since I cant find anything about it) should be discussed. Heres the deal I decided after some friends on here suggested I should get a new / faster setup. So as I'm easily persuaded I went on ebay and went on a shopping spree (after I sold my MD-1000). This is what I'm getting (hold on the questions will pop up)

    I have

msi 790GX-X65 motherboard that supports 140w cpus am2/am2+/ and AM3 ready socket.

    Getting

    a OCZ 700w Modular psu

AMD Phenom II 955 3.2ghz quad core Black Edition. with stock fan/heatsink.

    2gb DDR 3 1066mhz

I already have the rest of the set up installed and about 3 weeks old (bluray burner SATA, and 500gb Sata HDD)

My question is how would I go about getting my 3.2ghz to run at 3.4ghz? I know it shouldnt take much but what should I increase it to 10% or 20%? The board I have has easy Overclocking switches and it goes by percent. I really dont want to deal with the AMD overdrive software and or bios set up.

How far could I push this cpu till I would need a none stock cooler?

Also I figure this would be a no answer but with only increasing it .2ghz will it need a better cooler than the stock one? thanks in advance.

First off, I don't know beans about giving you specific advice...I never overclock, but here's my $0.02 anyway.

    Replace the stock cooler !!!

    I'm running a recent core i7 build...not over-clocked...with a
    Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
and the stock Intel cooler is a joke for this cpu.
I put in a monster-sized CoolerMaster V8 cooler and although it was a bear getting it in...
the cpu and I are much happier.

Coolers are cheap...particularly when compared with replacing the cpu.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I agree with maineman. Hot CPU will never give you advertised parameters. Cold stock CPU will give you much better performance than hot overclocked one. Yes, money again... Good cooler, good fans... and you will be pleased with performance.

CoolerMaster something, I don't remember. Maineman is an expert in these kinda toys. But I would visit their website, they provide help with choosing the right one. Two things to consider (besides money of course) - size and CPU. Factor in possible overclocking and you will pick right one.

I was just about to suggest the same, particularly if you can't pony up the $ for a better cooler.

              Good choice!

But is it worth only going from 3.2ghz to 3.4ghz and then have to buy a cooler? I think stock should be able to handle .2ghz more. I can see spending a 20 to 30 dollars.

Yes you may reach 4.0 ghz but as everyone suggests you need a good cooler preferably with copper contacts and coils

Hanibal what cooler did you get? And ripping should be reelly fast with it right? I was looking at a liquid cooler for 85.00 if I had the cash. Its either blank media or another fan so.

Nope, you will not realize much gain in ripping Blu-ray discs from overclocking your cpu.
This is largely ODD dependent; ie., the bottleneck here is your burner/reader
You will, however, note improvement when processing the ripped files already on your hdd.

You will be completely shocked when see what solid state HDD can add to the mix.
