Cant play DVDs on home ent system

I'm having trouble with making backups of dvd AND Blu-ray movies on my home entertainment system and my PS3.
I have done full copies, main title only, rip to ISO and then to DVD+R ( and to BD-R ), Im using single layered discs on both dvd and BR and none work on the new releases I just got ( they're larger than the single layer will hold, I'm using the compresion funtion ).

if I do an older movie that is less than the single layer capacity and do a clone it works fine.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I just bought the full package, no passkey tho, with lifetime option, am I going to need to only use dual layer media to get the larger movies to work?

    Thanks

We'll be glad to try and help, but it's all just guesswork without specifics.

Firstly, do the bkup discs playback ok in your pc?
If no, do the ripped dvd and BD files play ok when viewed from a hdd via a software player such as VLC and Media Player Classic?

    Please post your logs.
Let's start with standard dvd logs...burn, internal and process logs,
    particularly the burn logs.

Just copy and paste one set right here.

    The default location is:

    For Win7
    C:\Users\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log
    or for XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log is:
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

All the rips and dvds play on my computer, I thought I could put a larger movie (double layer) on a single layer disc( both dvd and bluray ).

It could be the compression that is messing up my home theater system and PS3.

Also, I tried to do a blu-ray > dvd copy and it kept telling me that the blank disc wasn't a blu-ray disc. I thought that was the point was to put a movie from a blu-ray on a dvd with compression.

As I said before I did an old dvd that was less then 4.7 gigs on a single layer dvd using the clone funtion and it works in both my home ent system and PS3 in addition to my computer.

This is all new to me and I'm not a programmer or the like so I'm not really sure at this point how to figure it out on my own at this time.

      Thanks again for your help.

Thank you for the assistance, this is a log from dvdfab:

So you never used the free 30 day trial? seems like you just bought DVDFab and thought you would know how to use with out even reading any tutorial on how to use. looks like the iso was created correctly and PS3 does not play them so that is one problem

To get a movie to fit onto a single layer blank you need to select DVD5 for DVD or BD25 for Blu-ray. Now if you are trying to get Blu-ray on a DVD then you need to use the Blu-ray to DVD Converter for that.

Here is a link that has tutorials on how to use DVDFab that you should really read also search the forum and read some of the threads as they are good to learn how to use DVDFab

You should post internal log file as well located in document-dvdfab-log also since you use ImgBurn you may want to set DVDFab and ImgBurn to work together by following what is below

Set DVDFab to use ImgBurn burn engine and recommended speed
        1. Click Common Settings in the upper right corner
        2. Click the Write Tab under DVD / Blu-ray
        3. Select ImgBurn Burn Engine
        4. Select Recommended Write Speed [only for use with ImgBurn Auto Write Speed]
        5. Select OK and restart DVDFab to apply the changed settings
        Setting Up ImgBurn

        1. Insert your blank dvd media
        2. Click Write Mode from the EZ-Mode Picker
        3. Select AWS as your Write Speed
        4. Click Change Automatic Write Speed
        5. Select the desired Write Speed
        6. Click Add
        7. Set the AWS for each brand/mid of blank media you will use. You may also select different write speeds for multiple burning drives.
        8. Click OK
Then just copy and burn as usual.
DVDFab will automatically open ImgBurn and automatically Close when the burn is finished.

Note: When burning a Dual Layer DVD, ImgBurn will present you with a Create Layer Break window. Select the best layer break according to the colored stars. You can even preview the layer break to ensure the transition will not interfere with your movie.

I did use the trial a few months ago and liked it, I copied one movie using full disc and it was flawless and easy, I figure it was because it was able to fit on one single layer disc without compression.

Also, your products came highly recommended from a friend over seas so I have no reason to doubt it's worth the money and works well.

I am choosing dvd5 and BR25 to put larger dual layer movies on single layer discs, I did read the forums about setting up dvdfab to work with imgburn and tried all that before I posted the 1st time.

the only thing I can think of is the compression onto a smaller than normal disc is what's causing the PS3 and Home theater system from seeing the discs, the say that the disc is unknown ( or something similar meaning it's unsupported).

I'm going to order some dual layer discs online and try them but it would be really cool if the single layered discs could be used, they're a lot cheaper.

Why do you think the blu-ray > dvd wants a blu-ray blank to burn to and won't axcept a regular single layered dvd?

Thanks guys, any help is appreciated.

ok, I just tried to burn two more discs, 1st Knight is 3.91 gigs and went flawlessly onto a single layer dvd and plays fine on my computer and home ent system.

The Jackal, dvdfab just keeps trying to open the source file for this dvd, it never comes up and reads it even if you let it sit there looking for 10 minutes, the movie has no damage to the disc and plays fine.

do you think maybe I have a corrupted file or something in dvdfile that a reinstall would fix?

off to work, I'll check back later
            thanks

Older movies (I am sure that the Jackal is one) sometimes require that you turn Pathplayer OFF.

Try this and see how you go. Don't forget to turn it back on after you have finished.
