Just curious. I have heard that a dvd label can have some effect on how it plays. That it may cause skipping and freezing. Is this correct?

Yes that is correct and the label can as well come off inside the DVD/Blu-ray player and cause serious damage. Much better to use inkjet printable DVD/Blu-ray rather than using the labels.
