The only updates that you are going to get for free are bug fixes which very rarely happens and copy protection updates. Any new feature that gets added will probably be additional charge.

Check this thread out as it about a new profile that was added to the DVD Ripper, Blu-ray Ripper and Video Converter. If you buy Lifetime gift now you get this new profile free but those who bought over a month ago have to pay for it.
