CPU/GPU CUDA and DVDFab 8 QT

Updated to DVDFab 8 QT. Went to check that it will still use my graphics card for processing acceleration.

    NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M

    CUDA Driver Version: 4.0
    CUDA Capability revision number: 1.2

I had just updated my NVIDIA graphic card driver last week, so it should be current.

The new DVDFab does not see the CUDA driver/card; says:

"CUDA H.264 decoder cannot be supported by your graphics card"

Is this new? Is this bad?
Will cross my finger and try software only, but it used to use the CUDA in the NVIDIA graphic card in the last version.

    Thanks all.

I have a similar card, but this one is supported.

    Graphics Chipset :
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 240

    CUDA Driver Version: 4.0
    CUDA Capability revision number: 1.2

    Supported Video Codecs :
    CUDA_MODE_H264
    CUDA_MODE_VC1
    CUDA_MODE_MPEG2
    DXVA_MODE_H264
    DXVA_MODE_VC1
    DXVA_MODE_MPEG2

    CoreAVC : cannot be detected.

      NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450

      CUDA Driver Version: 4.0
      CUDA Capability revision number: 2.1

Are you sure your's is 1.2?

If your's is 1.2 maybe thats why.

Look in this table for the different versions.

Have you upgraded you DVD Fab to the Version 8 QT? That's when I started not getting the CUDA recognition.

          Thanks!

              Thanks Potti,
Actually, i reinstalled the Beta NVIDIA card drivers [new June 20th, Beta] and now DVD Fab sees the CUDA.

However, I still seem to maybe not begetting all out of the CUDA in the graphics card I used to. The Disk transfer rates average 6.85 MB/Sec [totally fine for read/write] the compression is taking longer than it used to [maybe not using the CUDA fully?] 24 hrs+ to compress a 45GB Blu-ray down to 23GB.

I remember a while back it used to do it in 3-5 hrs, so this is a slow down.

              Thanks much
              Caleb

Sounds like you may be compressing on the initial rip from the disc?
If so, please avoid this. It will create a bottleneck and take much longer, not to mention the unnecessary wear and tear on your ODD.

Rip uncompressed from the original disc.
Then compress/modify/convert from the ripped files on your hdd as you wish.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

How long does it take if you use DXVA?

Which CPU do you have and how much system memory?

Actually that's what I do now. I copy off the Blu-ray uncompressed [6.85 MB/Sec transfer]. Then I compress from one directory on my hard drive to another to recue below 23 GB; then I ImageBurn to final blanks.
I've even tried using a 30 GB USB stick instead of the hard drive for the compression step, byt not much difference - ranges from 0.20 to 0.90 MB/Sec depending on amount of compression. Seems to take all of my Intel i7 processor.

I have an Intel i7 chip on an HP Laptop dv8 (1.6 GHz Quad with 8 processors)

6 GB of RAM [rarely use more than 3-4 GB)

I will try DXVA on next disk; thanks
