    Subtitles

I'm using DVDFab 8.1.0.0. I've used the Main Movie mode to backup my DVD movie. In addition to the main movie, I also selected subtitles English and English (forced).

So I can watch this backup on my PC or on my PS3, I'm using DVDShrink to join the separate VOB files into one, then I simply rename it with a .MPG extension. When I watch it on either, the subtitles do not display.

I also tried just renaming the raw .VOB files created by DVDFab with .MPG extensions. This did not help.

Any assistance you could provide to help me resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

It will not work the way you are doing it.

The info on how to play is contained in the IFO file, not the VOB's.

You need to rethink your plan !!!!

I'm certainly ignorant regarding backups. Do you know of a way to accomplish this?

Unfortunately, I have not delved into the depths of using a PS3 as a media player because every test I did with one gave me less that reasonable results & I regard them as a POS.

With any industry standard hardware or software player you can export the SUB/IDX files and play an AVI, MP4 or MKV file and switch the subs on/off at will.I a MKV, you can mux it internally within the file.

Do you know of any product which will burn the subtitles onto video and output a VOB?

Not really... You should be looking at the DVD Ripper Module -> MKV and getting rid of your PS3 as a media player.

Rip the disk to your hard drive with MakeMKV, this is free right now and will allow you to incorporate the subtitles into the MKV file. Also, it's very easy to use.
