I have had DVD fab for a while but will admit I am a noob, every time I try and make a copy of a dvd it rips it to a video ts format. Now, is there a way to rip it to an AVI file to watch on the computer? My mom is taking my computer on a long flight and wants to watch some old movies I have but doesn't want the hassle of carrying dvds. So is this possible, and if so how? I am sure this is a dumb question, I would really like to know though.

I've not tested the .avi profiles in a bit but yes DVDFab Ripper should create a playable file. You'll need to select the DVD Ripper option and the "to avi" option, then if viewing on a laptop try the .avi.x264.mp3 profile. click edit and set the bitrate to somewhere around 1200 as a starting point and test from there. Of course make sure you have software on the laptop that supports the file, try VLC media player (it's free) it will play most anything in a mobile format. You'll need to experiment to find the acceptable settings in the edit screen but that should be a good starting point. If the picture is "blocky" raise the bitrate 100-200 and try again.

Hi milew666
You can do as my friend W&B suggests, or if space is not a concern on the HDD you can just copy the movie to your HDD and play with VLC or MPC.
