My question is, Can Cinivia protection be put on your blu-ray player from an update? I have a Sony BDP-S1 blu-ray player, frist model Sony came out with! I've had it going on 6 years and they keep updating the firmware, last month v5.60, I just backed up "Dylan Dog-Dead of Night", and 8112QT prompt that dvd had Cinivia protection on it!(not a blu-ray disc) Does it have to be a BD backup for Cinivia to kick in or can a standard DVD with Cinivia also kick in! My player played the whole backup with no problems at all. So as of right now I think my Sony player is Cinivia free! I'm I correct or not? Thank you for your time!

And yes, standard dvd releases can carry the infection as well.
However, there are darn few of these.
