ripping as AVI files and not VOB?

Currently my DVDFAB rips to my hard drive VOB files.
my LG player which has its own hard drive does not support VOB files. LG tech said that for licencing disputes they no longer supported.
my question is how do i or can i choose when ripping a DVD the type of file to be ripped to the hard drive, such as AVI which is supported by LG.
If yes, how do i do it?
