DVDFab crashes with Nvidia GTS 450

I got a new PC today and took over the full installation of my old PC.

DVDFab crashed on startup.

I thought "ok, something messed up with the old installation and new drivers". So I made a separate fresh installation on a new hard disc, just a simple OS and the drivers. Same issue.

Then I deinstalled the driver of the Nvidia GTS 450 - and DVDFab works.

This happens on Windows XP. Seems like the 270.61 and 280.26 drivers both lead to the same issue.

Any ideas?

I'm running win7 64-bit and nvidia's most recent (non-beta) driver 8.17.12.8026.
I always update my drivers and have never suffered a crash
(x 2 years with my home built rig).

Firstly, I suggest you modify your A/V Codec settings in Fab.
Disable CUDA.
Go with software only for both the decoder and encoder.

Reload the most utd nvidia driver and see if this works

285.38 is the latest beta and I have no issues with that one.

"Software" is the default setting. So it's not the issue.

As suspected ... the installation of the beta drivers doesn't change anything.

More ideas?

Can it be something between display driver and mainboard/cpu somehow?

I have an Asus M4N68T-M with and AMD Phenom II X6 1055T.

No way ... I even tried an old 260.xx display driver.

The vendor of the card is "Point of View" by the way.

I WILL buy another display adapter today as I have no other choice, it seems, and I will report about the result.

Asus EN210, also with NVidia Chipset, results in the same issue.

Maybe XP + Nvidia Display Driver + Nvidia nforce Chipset + DVDFab = no go??

Now I'm out of ideas: it even crashes with an ATI Radeon card.

As soon as the display driver is installed, DVDFab doesn't start anymore.

That was sure: on Windows 7 it works ...

Anyway I made another FRESH install of Windows XP and installed really just the display driver (none of the main board drivers) and it still crashed ...

I think this is something the developers must look at

In a Virtual Box with Windows XP I was able to run DVDFab. But there I am not able to read Blu-rays because Virtual Box just emulates CD/DVD.

But I found my final workaround: I created a second HARDWARE PROFILE in which I disabled the display driver. And I boot into that one if needed.

Why not install Windows 7?

Windows XP as had it's day....

Because anything else works and I will not make a new installation just because of one program.

In the History Log I have seen recently some "fixed start crash in Windows XP" or something. Maybe they need to fix it just again
