Wow. That is bad news for all of us. Right now i don't have a hdd to use with my media player if I don't purchase one. I've been looking at this:
Western Digital 3TB My Book Essential External Desktop Hard Drive@$169.95
Hopefully this will work with the Aios? What do you think?

Can you post a link or the retailer?
Unless they're living under a rock, I doubt that's the current price.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

        Good deal in today's market.
Like I said, these externals are not my preference, but it's got solid reviews.
No reason it shouldn't work well, usb 3.0 support and backward compatible
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Should I look for an internal hdd for my AIOS? Any suggestions?

Definitely, but I wouldn't jump, not with these current prices....
that is not unless you can find someone else living under a rock...

The $169.95 normally isn't such a great deal, but right now it sure looks like one.

I've been a big fan of samsung hdds for a few years now, the most recent being the F4 2TB drives...link above

Honestly, all the hdds I've purchased over the years have been pretty darn good performers

I would definitely put in an internal drive and hardwire, not wireless.

Ok I ordered Western Digital 3TB My Book Essential External Desktop Hard Drive.
Hopefully this drive will work better with the Aios than the Seagate. I will look into getting an internal hdd for the Aios sometime in the future. More ? will follow I'm sure. Thanks!

                  Honest advice Unca...

Put an internal drive in straight up. I suppose that I have owned over 30 different models of players and have ALWAYS had better results when a internal drive was fitted (with exception of those players that do not support an internal drive)

Ok here come the questions. Got my Wd hdd and my Aios up and running. (Though I can't connect to the internet). I backed up a couple of full discs to the hdd and the Aios read them with no problem. Picture and sound look great.
BUT when i backed up movie only versions of blu ray discs I have (Captain America,Lion King). The Aios wont even acknowledge that they are on the hdd.
They play fine from the drive on my computer but like I said...movie only version doesn't get read by the media player. Any input would be welcome.

With movie only there is no menu, which is probably tripping it up.

So what your saying is that I always need to back up the whole movie? When I do that with blu ray discs the Aios plays the movie fine but I can't seem to navigate to any special features. Not that it matters much to me. But seeing that it is the whole disc you would think I could see the menu and choose? I can do that with a standard dvd's but not blu ray's?
                        Please advise any suggestions.

The way I understand it, most players only have limited support of BR menus. You just have to find what works for you on that player.

Personally, I never use ISO's but encode to either AVI or MKV.

Also, I would try to find the player's own forum where you should have access to a lot more information.

                            ???
I can't imagine why this is happening.
I have both these BD flicks ripped in main movie mode and I have no problems with playback.
I'm trying to relate your WD to this, but I can't quite connect the dots.

Almost without exception, I bkup BD's in main movie mode.
I have no issues whatsoever with playback on my AIOS, regardles of mode, ie., main movie, full disc, clone
and regardless of format, ie., BDMV, MKV, AVI

No, the AIOS will playback main movie no problem.

As Greg said, navigating BD menus are a problem for most players.
I just tried to access the menus on a couple of clone and full disc rips and was not able to do so.
However, the movies play just fine

It might just be my limited experience since I've just started to explore the player's capabilities along with trying to troubleshoot any apparent shortcomings.

So far, I couldn't be more pleased with it, especially for $100...

Ok I'll try again. I had those 2 movies on my computers hdd in main movie mode and did a copy and paste to my WD external. Like I said it wouldn't detect them. When I did a full movie back up direct to the external hdd it did. When I get home from work I'll do a couple of tests and see what happens. Since the Aios won't let me watch any of the special features I don't really want to do a full disc back up and take up useless space on the external hdd. I've had a couple of bugs with the Aios and have contacted support but haven't got much help. Hopefully that will change. You are right the price is fantastic...now if I could get it to do all that it's supposed to do.
