    Optical Drives Blu-Ray Burner

I am looking to update my Optical Drive from just a normal DVD Burner to a Blu-ray or Blu-ray 3D burner. Does anyone have any suggestions or a personal favorite that they would recommend? I see that in past post Pioneer or LG were favorites, just wondering if that remains the same and if so which model do you recommend. Thanks you for the help in advance!

I'm a laptop user, so I exclusively use external drives for my Blu-ray needs. I have an LG WH10LS30 that I installed in a 5.25" eSATA/USB 2.0 enclosure that has served my incredibly well. One advantage to this drive is that it is able to write 4X 25GB Optical Quantum BD-Rs at 6X (or maybe it's 8X...I can't remember off the top of my head). I would highly recommend an LG writer after my experience with this drive.

My "more portable" BD writer is an Asus SBW-06C1S-U slim-line USB 2.0 drive that can be powered directly from the USB bus. It supports low-to-high (LTH) BD-R media, which a lot of the external slim-line Panasonic drives you can snag for cheap off eBay will not. Anyway, this drive also has never given me any problems to speak of.

And yesterday I ordered an Asus SBW-06D2X-U slim-line USB 2.0 drive to replace my SBW-06C1S-U, which I plan on removing from its enclosure and installing in my new Dv7 laptop. The SBW-06D2X-U supports BDXL up to 128GB, 3D Blu-ray, and Dolby EX and DTS-HD (5.1 channels). Newegg is selling them right now for $89.99 after rebate. Based on my experience with my SBW-06C1S-U, I expect the SBW-06D2X-U will perform just as well.
