What app do you use to view video?

I am new so please excuse me if this is general knowledge, but what app is the best/preferred to watch movies? I have ripped a BD to mkv then use MPlite to view it. The result looks very good. However, if I use WMC the movie black-level is more gray and washed-out, the fast-forward doesn't function, and there is not metadata i.e. no cast info or synopsis data. Is there a better app for viewing or way to adjust WMC for a better picture?
