Been running the latest version 8 for a while on Windows 8 x64 with no issues.
Sounds like an issue with your computer.
Was this a new computer with windows 8 already installed? Did you upgrade to windows 8 over top of a previous version of the OS or did you do a clean install of windows 8 (completely removing the previous version of windows first)?
Got a new computer with Windows 8 and tried to install the last updated version of 8, but it froze my computer before finishing.
Any workarounds I can get to get my trusty version of 8 back?
I found that after doing a clean install of windows 8 x64 (not upgrading over top of windows 7 but reformatting the hard drive in the process and completely removing the previous version of the OS) - I have the same problem.
The installer just hangs when installing fab 8 - every time. This is not an issue when installing fab 9. It doesn't seem to matter which version of fab 8 I install (the few that I tried).
I've tried downloading a new install, run as admin, uninstalling and re-installing, using ccleaner... nothing seems to help.
The solution/workaround I found was to just let the installer sit there and wait. It may take an hour or longer but at some point it will "un-hang" itself and allow the install to finish.
Don't do anything else on your computer while you wait for the installer to finish or it will freeze your entire computer.
I'm wondering if it has to do with the installer engine/app they used. The reason is, that I installed the latest beta version of VideoRedo TV H264, and once that got to "finishing installation" it sat there, with the hard drive light constantly staying on & it froze up about 5 minutes or so later.
I've noticed that installer for both Dvdfab & VideoRedo both look the same, so I'm thinking it's not so much the program itself but an issue with the installer. The problem is that I don't know which Company made the installer app that both are using.
