version 9.0.16

I'm currently running version 9.0.1.6 and for the first time (For me at least) since DVDFAB went to QT versions, I can now reliably rip my DVDs and blue rays with CUDA running and get perfect results. My question is, because I have a stable version running, I'm a bit hesitant to install the newer version 9.0.1.7 so if I tell the new version to install to a non standard directory ( not overwrite the current version) will it share anything from the previous version, or are they completely independent of each other?
