Now you're confusing me again The blank dvd disks I buy, which I thought were standard, are 4.7 GB but it doesn't say DVD-5. What's the difference, and what do backup your disks to if you don't buy disks anymore? Is this talk just to confuse the newbie?

A 4.7GB single layer disc is DVD-5 they are the same thing, DVD-9 are dual layer 8.5GB discs. Just how you say it. I have a media player so I put my movies on a hard drive as MKV files. I have 50 movies in MKV format I consider keepers and they take up about 100GB of a 1 TB external HDD so I don't burn discs much any more.
