CPU/GPU Intel QuickSync support gone in new Intel driver release

I have an Intel Corei7 3770k and QuickSync has been working fine in DVDFab for some time. Initially, I had v15.31.3071 of the Intel driver and DVDFab detects it and uses it fine with that version.

I then upgraded to a new release from Intel (15.31.9.64.3165) and everything was still OK. At this point, QuickSync support in Handbrake stopped working so I upgraded again to a very new release (15.31.16.64.3234) which fixed Handbrake but now DVDFab no longer recognises QuickSync as being available.

I ran the Analyzer and got this:

    Code:
Intel Media SDK System Analyzer (32 bit)

The following versions of Media SDK API are supported by platform/driver:

    	Version	Target	Supported	Dec	Enc
    	1.0	HW	Yes X	X
    	1.0	SW	No
    	1.1	HW	Yes X	X
    	1.1	SW	No
    	1.3	HW	Yes X	X
    	1.3	SW	No
    	1.4	HW	Yes X	X
    	1.4	SW	No
    	1.5	HW	Yes X	X
    	1.5	SW	No
    	1.6	HW	Yes X	X
    	1.6	SW	No

    Graphics Devices:
    	Name Version State
    	LogMeIn Mirror Driver 7.1.542.0 08
    	Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 9.18.10.3234 Active

    System info:
    	CPU:	Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
OS:	Microsoft Windows 8 Pro with Media Center
    	Arch:	64-bit

Installed Media SDK packages (be patient...processing takes some time):

    Installed Media SDK DirectShow filters:

    Installed Intel Media Foundation Transforms:
      IntelĀ® Hardware M-JPEG Decoder MFT : {00C69F81-0524-48C0-A353-4DD9D54F9A6E}
      IntelĀ® Quick Sync Video H.264 Encoder MFT : {4BE8D3C0-0515-4A37-AD55-E4BAE19AF471}

    Tips:
     - SW target does not work: make sure Media SDK DLL (e.g. libmfxsw64.dll)
is located in your executable path or in system path

    Analysis complete... [press ENTER]
I'm running Windows 8 x64 with no additional graphics hardware. If I roll back the driver and reboot, DVDFab picks up QuickSync again so I guess something needs altering slightly to reference QuickSync in this new Intel release?

3165 is the latest driver I can find, which is the one I'm using, DVDFab works fine, Handbrake doesn't. Bear in mind, Handbrake hasn't been updated since May and is still in beta.

        We are all running i7-3770K's..

        Could be bios related...

After further investigation... QS x264 encode is working fine, but, QS x264 decode isn't working.

Have some improve in next build, please have a try later and tell us the result.

It's OK in 3222, not found the version 15.31.16.64.3234. If it still have problem please tell us the link to download the driver 3234.

            Thanks!

              Hi Wilson,

              Here's a link to the 3234 driver: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...3234_Win64.zip

but having upgraded to DVDFab 9.0.6.0, the problem is worse as I can't even get previously working QuickSync drivers to work. With 9.0.6.0, it lets me select QS for decoding and encoding but when encoding starts, I get a graph error. I downgraded back a version I know works (3165) and that also gave me graph/pin errors.

Without making any further changes to my Intel drivers, I uninstalled 9.0.6.0 and installed 9.0.5.5 and it immediately worked again.

3165 seems to be working with 9.0.6.0 for me:

Where does this '3234' driver come from?

It's not on Intel's website, is this beta?

The readme says it's for the U and Y series processors which I believe to be the low power laptop processors. That's the best I could glean from the precious little information Intel gives. The U stands for Ultrabook.

The 3165 driver actually started making the iTunes store crash, after some research apparently I'm not the only one having problems.

2867 is now installed, this is the latest MSI version of the Intel driver.

At what point does it crash the store Marty? I went to the store but didn't attempt to buy anything to download and it seemed to work OK?

It was fine for a while, then when I clicked on the 'iTunes Store' button it would start to access the store then crash. Reverting to an earlier driver eliminated the problem.

Hopefully it will be fixed in the next iTunes release or the next video driver release.
