What is pathfinder?

DVDFab was having problems opening one of my 500 disks yesterday, and today I read another thread with a similar problem where someone suggested turning off pathfinder. I did that and now it is reading the dvd.

I've done some googling but can't find out what exactly is pathfinder? Can you give me a link that explains it or just tell me in 50 words or less? I don't want a big long technical article or explanation, just something simple in a sentence or two.

PathPlayer gives DVDFab the ability to copy DVD content only allowed to be played on a real DVD player. In this way, DVDFab will ignore unplayable content which may contain copy protection.
