Other Path Player

I keep reading posts referring to path player being enabled or disabled. I can't even find path player in the settings. Where is it? Also, what exactly does path player do?

Keep PathPlayer always enabled until you need to disable it for unique issue. PathPlayer does pretty much what the name implies, it finds the playable path on the disc ignoring the bogus stuff put there to thwart backing up.
