Blu Ray Version "Backwards" compatible?

I just know the answer to this is somewhere in the Forums but I can't find it I need to know if I will be able to use the Blu Ray version to copy my non-Blu Ray stuff. I have both types of discs and players (as I'm sure many people do) but do I have to buy both versions in order to copy & backup different formats? Thanks muchly.
