Is there a way to change the blue background to some other color. I am trying to use it from across the room on my HTPC and it's very hard to read the text against the blue background. I have to change the resolution from 1080 to 1200 in order to make out the text better on my 72" TV and it's still not great.

You can click this symbol and check the other included backgrounds, maybe one will show up better. Try "Life in a bud" it shows up pretty good.

Also uncheck this box, it make the contrast of text to background better:
