Other To Copy or To Rip? That is the question.

I've been using copy to move movies to my hard drive and they work fine with DVDFAB virtual drive. So thought I would experiment and try the ripper instead. Process took forever. Did I do something wrong? Except for the different format choices, it seems to be the same process as copy. That is, as far as viewing them. What am I missing? Is there a tutorial somewhere that helps me pick the right format for me in ripper? or at least something that explains pro's and con's of each choice? I am talking about the output choices ie. MKV.H265 etc.

If you have some kind of hardware acceleration for x265 I would use that, it's a good compromise between space and quality. If not x264 is the next best choice, that may take a while too unless it has hardware assistance. I would also keep both in the MKV container.
