i am considering buying dvdfab, and i know that i will get an email with a registration code to make my free trial upgraded to purchased but if something happens to my computer that i have it installed on, will i be able to download the free software on a new computer and re enter my purchased registration key on the new computer and have it be able to work.

Yes, save your key/email that is sent to you to a usb flash drive or external HD. You can even have it installed on 2 working computers at the same time BUT don't have both machines running it at the same time while connected to the internet. -
