What is needed to go from a DVD to a file that will be played on iTunes?

    What is needed to go from a DVD to a file that will be played on iTunes?

    I want to put in a system in a new home that will play movies from a server in certain rooms i.e. Great Room, bedrooms, den, etc.. I ripped a DVD with DVD to DVD but found out that I couldn't play the files in Video_TS with iTunes, at least I couldn't.

    What do I need to do this? I guess .mov or mp4 are needed instead of the TS as I will be using the Mac iTunes if it matters.

    Maybe there is an article somewhere on what is needed to do this?

      What format would you suggest for playback with iTunes on a large screen HDTV?

        Since it is iTunes I'd probably try Apple TV and experiment with bit rates and frame resolution until I got happy with it.
