software crashing. need help with FULL uninstal...

Downloaded an old version of DVDfab v 5.xx QUITE a while ago of net... just recently installed what I expected to be trial version... software showed as already registered to someone. Therefore....

I uninstalled then Installed a different version (DVDfab V6.XX) from website. Tried to run... software would crash (meaning it would copy the first 15-19 seconds of DVD to DVD, file to mobile, or DVD to mobile). I must have atempted to uninstal/reinstal at least a dozen times with no change re: above crashing. Installed software on a different and much older/slower pc to determine whether software corrupt. Worked a-ok fine. (The configurations and setup of the two pcs are identical minus the memory and processors)

This Lead me to believe that "residue" from initial instal of v5 must have been left behind on my pc causing the above issue. I came across a thread on this forum (I believe) indicating how to properly and completely uninstal software in order to perform a clean and successful install. HAve tried and still having same issue.

Very frustrating as hoping to try out/use software on my MUCH faster pc. Any help short of suggesting a complete format and re-instal of OS followed by instal of dvdfab???

Pls assist. the software appears to be pretty cool... (at least from what I could tell of the first 15-19 seconds of the few DVDs I have tried.

    Thank you,

Well it seems the initial install you did was a cracked version of DVDFab which would mean you have malware/virus on computer somewhere and could be the cause of the crashes. Have you uninstalled DVDFab and then used a registry cleaner like CCleaner to clean out all left over parts? Also you may want to download and use Malwarebytes to scan you computer for infection due to the crack that was on your computer. MBAM has free version that works great.

Thanks for prompt response.. I assumed the same. Did run cc cleaner and a reg cleaner (cant remember which one at the moment) along with uninstal and deletions of all dvdfab folders. Did run malware and antivirus software and did not show any infections.

My signature is the red and blue

try and search the registry for left over DVDFab entries as that could be problem as well or the malware programs you ran were not able to find the malware

I ran registry cleaning software. I ALSO did a manual looksee of the reigstry and made sure to remove all references of DVDfab after every attempted re-instal. Ran both malware and anti-virus w/o a single hit. Also did manual search of registry for malware in areas I have most commonly found them.. nothing

redownload the latest beta and right click the install file and select install/run as administrator. Not sure if this will work

actually... did not mention above as thought it would be a bit redundant... but tried most recent v7 as well with same issue. I don't think I have the install/run as administrator option (or at least I haven't ever noticed before). I am running XP sp3 and my log-in is administrator status. Only noticed that option for the brief few days of trialing vista upgrade before returning to XP.

In XP when right-click, you should see "Run as..." which will give you an Admin account. Run it as Admin regardless if your current account have admin rights or not. There is a big difference between "admin rights" and "run as Admin"

Yes especially since XP creates an admin account with full admin rights when it is installed in addition to your admin account with limited admin rights

Will try as advised to reinstal as administrator... once i get off work and get home tonight.

If that doesn't work... is there anywhere else in my registry I should look (that I may have missed when searching for "DVDFab" entries) for entries that I should be deleting to ensure for a "clean instal??

ps. I did get rid of files in "C:\Documents and Settings\..\application data" as well.

Well if it was a cracked version you installed then there is a file in your registry that has nothing to do with DVDFab and that could be causing the crash and unfortunately we not able to know what that is

In regedit search all locations below for DVDFab entries

                        HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

                        HKEY_CURRENT_USER
                        a) Software

                        HKEY_USERS
                        a) S-1-5-21
                        Software
                        b)a) S-1-5-21-Classes
                        Applications

If this does not fix the problem I have no idea what will

If that wouldn't help, I believe next step is radical - reformat the disc and reinstall OS.
