registration problems - win 7 - UAC related.

I have a registration issue, which is also a security loophole for DVDFAB designers to consider closing.

I had both dvdfab 6 & 7 installed & registered on my Win 7 pc running with the default UAC settings ( i.e. UAC on ) in windows 7.

then I decide to get rid of UAC - i.e. turn it off iin control panel & reboot PC. this causes various poorly documented additional side effects e.g. cookies, passwords etc are all lost and also causes some programs to lose their registrations.

so both DVDFAB 6 & 7 now appear as trial versiona.

I tehn had real problems getiing the new style key back in to both versions, as it has to be don by telling WIN 7 to open the key file with DVDFAB 6 or 7. and once windows has decided that the key is associated with dvdfab6 I could not get it to associate with dvdfab 7. I had to trick windows by copying & renaming key file and giving them .df6 and .df7 extensions so that I could set up "open with" defaults.

surely there is an easier way ?
so what is the recommended method please, in case I ever have to do it again.

the security issue is that all trial options for extra features have reset themselves to " never used" , and the main programs had reset to day 1 of trial 30 days before I re-registered them. so options where I'd previously used up the free 1 month trial e.g. file to mobile are available to me again.

so any one who was prepared to toggle UAC on / off every 30 days would, I guess, have never ending trial periods ??? - I am assuming that putting UAC back on would have the same side effects as turning it off. I'm not super-tech savvy but I gather that it's something to do with virtualistaion of resistry keys under UAC

Have a read of the "Registration Key Problems?" thread.

This usually solves any problems with UAC.

      1. THE registration key problems post does not really address my issue as explained above. That process works ok to get fab6 registered. problem is then how to get fab7 registered using same key ( now associated with 6). because at that stage I had 6 registered, 7 in trial still, and double clicking the key would just re-resgister 6.
I could do it only my making a copy of the key and inventing s fiel type for it. I see no sticky or proper "how to do it " post anywhere.
I must have solved this once before when PC was new, but not keep solution notes

a sticky or a step by step idiots guide of how to register both 6 & 7 from one key on new PC or after O/S reinstall would be good. ( I am assuming that it is normal to possess only 1 key for the 2 programs - is that correct ? )

      - what about the reset trials loophole ?

It's really hard to understand what are you talking about. DVDFab 6 and 7 installed in different directories and do not interact with each other.
All you have to do is to place copy file of your key in both directories, CLOSE DVDFab 6, open DVDFab 7 "as Admin" and doubleclick key in that directory.... you're done and your copy is registered.
