wont burn to blank disk

after it copies the movie, i put in a blank disk and it rejects it saying insert double layer. it is a blank dvd disk. what is it saying

If you haven't set DVD5 as your target size, it's saying that it is too big for the single layer disk that you inserted and that it needs a double layer disk for it to fit on.

This is presuming that you know what SL & DL disks are.

how do i set it to go with a sl, i downloaded the latest version and its never done that before.
