    Types of Blu-Ray blank media?????

Hi Guys, this is my first time on the forum and actually my first intro into burning Blu-Rays as I have just purchased a new burner!!!!

All is fine in the reading of the original movie but even though I have selected the 25GB option for burning it is telling me that my BD-R discs that I just bought are not Blu-Ray media. I then read on the DVDFab website that I need BD-R/ER(I think that is it???). I am not sure why I would need a re-writable disc in there for copying???

I have just upgraded to 8.0.6.7 and it mentioned that wouldn't be a problem using BD-R's.

    Anyone with any suggestions????

Google your burner and find out compatable media for your burner. Not all media work well with all burners. I have a pioneer 205 and i found a list on the web. I've been using optical quantum and vinpower digital BD-R's which are Philips R04. They show up on the compatability list for my burner. Check videohelp.com and the media link.
    Have fun.

I have a pioneer 206 and the vinpowers burn flawlessly on my burner. And they're the cheapest discs you can find.

        Types of Media!!!!!!

Hey thx guys for that cause I think you are on the right track!!!! I bought a pack of KODAK BD-R's cause they are inkjet printable(I have a printer that will do that and my DVD's come out amazing) but I can 't even write onto them even if I copy to a FULLDISC file and write from there(I get an error 122). So I will see what I can get that might work!!!

I gather you read the error code list. I get mine at Newegg also.

Here's one... I was getting a error 122 message at one time, I swtiched to a different brand of media and everything worked fine.

But I was wondering... my drive (LG BH10LS30) could use a firmware update. I noticed there is a recent one availble. Could a firmware update make the drive more compatible with other brands of media????

Quite likely. Read up on how to flash your drive. There should be info on their website as to what the new firnware will acomplish. If you aren't sure, you might be best to use what works now. I used to flash my old NEC drive, but i haven't had to touch the pioneer i'm using. It works, so i'm not touching it.

Thanks... the other question I have though is... I saw someone on here once say something like "if you don't know what you're doing in regards to updating your firmware, don't do it... it will render your drive useless".

Is it really THAT difficult? That comment kinda puts a scare into someone who's never done it. I downloaded the .exe file needed to update the firmware... just haven't tried to apply it yet.

                    Hi WaspHavoc

122 HWS_FAILED_CALIBRATING 22 // Write failed at the beginning of the media (often a media that is poorly supported by the drive)

That was probably my post I also could not find a firmware update for your burner
To answer your question, it really is not difficult most come with an installer ,when you open it they usually ask what drive you want to update and you are going from this firmmware... to this ....click yes and usually after done it will ask to restart computer and your done
                    Hope this helps

Thanks! I had a feeling it wasn't that difficult... I've updated firmware before on various things such as X Box consoles and DVD players... but still, seeing that comment made me think for a second..."uh oh... is it that much harder for a Blu Ray drive?".... I surely wouldn't wanna lose my drive.... thanks!

I thinks it's easier than it used to be. I remember searching for installers, and using 3rd party firmware to update dvd drives. It looks like they come with installers now, so it's a no brainer. My Pioneer has many newer firmware updates, but i don't want to screw up the fact that it works well with the discs i use, so i'm not touching it.

Hi... I too, have JUST started burning blu ray today and have the same version of fab (blu ray copy). I have the LG BH10LS30 blu-ray drive and I am currently using VERBATIM brand media. Mine is regular 25 gig BD-R and I had absolutely NO problems burning a copy with my drive and fab's software. Upon doing IN-DEPTH research before deciding to make the jump to blu-ray, I've read in several tech articles that the brand of media REALLY counts with blu-ray and it's performance/compatability/and reliability. What brand of drive do you have and what brand of media are you using? That could be a HUGE matter believe it or not. Fab decrypted a 50 gig retail package movie for me, compressed it and burned it on a 25 gig BD-R disc for me with no hitches or any sort of changes needed to be done to my hardware or software. Hope this helps

I also have an LG BH10LS30 and I ruined about 5 Windata BD-R's trying to burn my first backup.... then I tried ONE Verbatim BD-R and it burned like a charm! Plays back on my Insignia stand alone with no problems whatsoever.
