Resident Evil Blu-Ray... How long to copy?

So I'm just looking for a little feedback. Just HOW LONG is it going to take to "back up" Resident Evil Afterlife in Blu-Ray? I basically have the gee-whiz pc with all the bells and whistles (to keep it simple), and after 40 minutes I was only 1.63% into the copy process. I stopped for the moment to copy something else and am just considering backing up Resident Evil from a regular dvd (although I would much rather have it in Blu-Ray) Any input?

What size media are you trying to copy the blu-ray onto? It seems to me like you are trying to copy it onto a single-layer 25GB disc. If that is the case, what is happening is it is re-encoding the movie to fit on that disc while it is ripping it. For better results, make sure you use the main movie option and let it finish scanning so you know if it will fit on one 25GB disc or not. If it won't, make sure you change the target (output directory) to file and not to a blu-ray disc. This way, you can re-encode it from your computer's hard-drive and not directly from the disc while it is being copied.

Maybe a bad disc?
I did this one...BD...normal rip time...as I recall something like 30-40 minutes.

Yes... I am trying to compress to a BD-25 disc. I will try copying using the "main movie" option. Afterall, I NEVER watch all that extras BS anyway. Although, the few times I've burned blu-ray now, everytime I put one of my verbatim BD-R 25gig discs in to copy to, the program seems to tell me that it is a dual layer disc and that it's not neccesary to use. Why is this?

I hope it's not a bad disc. I'm trying the "main movie" option now. And yeah, other blu-rays I've copied have only taken like 40-ish minutes

Just an FYI:
Never compress from a BD disc.
Always rip uncompressed first, either to Full or Main Movie (or soon-to-be-available Custom) and then compress from the ripped files on the hdd.

Yes, this means 2 steps, but it's more efficient (quicker) overall and results in much less wear and tear on your BD drive

As long as the PS3 wasn't updated to 3.10 it will play

I have seen others say the same thing about Verbatim BD-R 25GB coming up as dual-layer, soberjohn23! Don't be alarmed because all of the threads I've seen were saying that it said that but that the movie played fine. Let us know how it works out. Verbatim makes good media, I can't imagine why they would have faulty batches of 25GB BD-R's.

Please take this into consideration soberjohn23. As we prepare for the new age of copyright protections, Cinavia bursts in. This has a "watermark" on the audio track that will completely disable the audio on a copied version of it after about 20-30 minutes. Again, this will only happen on Cinavia-enabled devices, which would be some new blu-ray disc standalones, older model blu-ray disc standalones with internet connections, and of course the PS3. If you are using a PS3, I would suggest purchasing a standalone blu-ray player without Cinavia protection. And if you aren't, do not update your firmware on your current standalone as it could make your Resident Evil copy a coaster.

Just making sure you are not disappointed with the results of DVDFab.

EDIT: I did find this on another forum how to get past this, albeit archaically...

Fast Forward (1.5 speed) a couple of seconds past the Cinavia message (before you get the message). PS3 can't pick up the protection code in the audio at anything other than normal speed.

Actually you only have to do it for a few seconds then switch back to normal. I tried it on my PS3. First I played it normally and it gave me the Cinavia Error, then I played the beginning 20 seconds or so in 1.5 speed then switched back to normal and the entire movie played fine.

Nice find...Now to test this for myself. Gotta get Salt or RE first
