    compression problem

    Hi !

    ISSUE #1 :
I'm having the same issues reported in this thread :

I compressed Alien 4 (Alien : Resurection) movie. The original movie is 26.895 GB and DVDFab states the output files will be 86% compressed at 23.145GB, however the outputted files are 14.655GB. The logs are below for this movie. I also had the same issue with another movie : Buried (Dvdfab states compressed will be 97% at 23.145GB, but resulted files are 20.607GB). I'm using CUDA. FYI, I recently upgraded my nvidia drivers to latest one : 266.58, I have a GTX 460 card (the previous drivers were 260.99). I will try encoding with software only overnight and post results tomorrow morning to see if problem is still present or not (then pointing to the CUDA compression feature as a problem), in the mean time as I said logs are attached.

    ISSUE #2 :
With Buried, I burned the outputted files even with the lost quality (20.607 GB instead of 23.145GB). With this movie, I'm having issue fastforwarding... while forwarding, I cannot see the image at higher speed while going forward; when I stop the forward there is a pause and the movie starts at the forwarded position... so it's impossible basically to fast forward because you can't see where you stop. Skip scene works. I checked movies I burned recently and they have this issue.

Logs (for issue #1, probably usable for issue #2 as well) :

    Hi benito
In mainmovie, because of The original Disc's size too small (26.895),so the mainmovie may be smaller than 23.145G. If you not check all Audio and Subtitle channals, the size will be much smaller, i think it's no issue for your first issue.
The second question: I think that's a VC1 BD Disc, please post some internal logs about this to help us found the reason.
    thanks a lot
    Joe

Yes, listen to the guy above on your first question - not an issue. You have to wait until after DVDFab calculates the new filesize after you select Main Movie only with just one audio and possibly one subtitle track (if that's what you want). The resultant size is much smaller than the initial read size that appears when you open the disc in DVDFab. That movie is not being compressed at all.

For your second issue, you will never be able to fast forward copied blu-ray movies the way real blu-ray movies do effortlessly. That is just the downside of BD-R media burned with marketed rewriters as opposed to officially manufactured blu-ray discs. There might be a difference with higher rated BD-R media in this instance but I really doubt that buying it for this issue alone is worth the significant hike in price.

        not true
i raised this issue with ipopov about a year ago, and have seen it raised several times since.
if i rip to an iso with dvd fab (remove protection) and use another program to compress, i have no problem at all with fast forward or chapter stops.

it would be nice if fab would tell us if its h264 or cv-1 after analyzing.

Ok, just to be sure : I now have the movie only with 1 track on my hard drive (backed up from the original media). Then when I try to take those tracks (which are really 26GB on my hard drive) and choose "BD-25" as the target and putting those files in a new folder, DVD Fab states 86%-23GB and does not calculate at all (it is immediate), but likesaid the resulted directory is 14GB in size... I've been doing this for a while, first time having this behavior; I mean if my original movie only take 26GB on my hard drive, I would expect then a compressed BD-25 to take the full space out of it no ?
          thanks !

              Sorry for this,
Please post the internal log about this, and a buy link will be helpful.
You play the disc in stand alone player or ps3.
              thanks

                Hi joe,

Logs are above in this thread. I'm using the ps3, but the issue #1 is with the size of main movie once compressed; issue #2 (fastforward) is with the bd-r playing on ps3.
What do u mean by "buy link" ? (I have purchased lifetime license). Thanks !

i raised this issue with ipopov about a year ago, and have seen it raised several times since.
if i rip to an iso with dvd fab (remove protection) and use another program to compress, i have no problem at all with fast forward or chapter stops.

it would be nice if fab would tell us if its h264 or cv-1 after analyzing.

                  dow..
Well I've made several copies of the Avatar Extended Special Edition Blu-ray and though it plays perfectly, any fast forwarding or rewinding over 10X is unviewable. But I could really care less, as long as it plays perfectly.

Logs are above in this thread. I'm using the ps3, but the issue #1 is with the size of main movie once compressed; issue #2 (fastforward) is with the bd-r playing on ps3.

From Alien Anthology box set (north america), on Amazon :

By the way, tried with 8.0.7.3 and same result (outputted directory is 14 GB while DVDFab states outputted size will be 22GB at 83% compression rate; the main movie before compression is 26 GB on my hard drive). Thanks for your help !
