    Blu-Ray media not recognized

I was having a problem with version 8.0.6.8 with DVDFab not recognizing my Blu-Ray media. I was using IMGBurn with DVDFab Blu-Ray Copy. I would get a message that the media was not Blu-Ray media, and DVDFab would eject the disc and not allow me to burn. The problem mysteriously went away after I had used IMGBurn by itself to burn on the same media DVDFab refused to burn with.

Now I have upgraded to version 8.0.7.3, and the same problem is happening again. I can't use my BDR media with DVDFab, but it works just fine with the same media using IMGBurn. I have DVDFab set up to use IMGBurn.

So now my procedure is to copy the Blu-Ray disc to a folder (50GB size) using DVDFab without compression, then use DVDFab to compress it to a 25GB folder. I then use IMGBurn to burn from the compressed folder to disc, with verify. The result is a perfectly good copy that plays well.

The problem hasn't gone away since I have been using IMGBurn as it did before with 8.0.6.8. DVDFab does not create logs to explain why it is rejecting the media, at least I haven't seen anything in them about this.

Is there anything I can do to allow me to use DVDFab to record to Blu-Ray media?

Kinda sounds like a pain, but thats the preffered method!! Exactly how you are doing it!! Maybe some of the senior members can give some insight as to why you are having the issue with the BD Media! Have you tried another media?

Keep on burning with ImgBurn. Trust me! You're using the best method!

Well, I have DVDFab set up to work with IMGBurn. I would like to skip the extra steps. It was working with the older version, that is, I could put a Blu-Ray disc in the machine, fire up DVDFab and it would copy the disc and hand the burning over to IMGBurn automatically. This was a lot more convenient than what I am being forced to do.

Is anyone else having this problem? If not, perhaps I don't have DVDFab set up correctly. I can't understand why it rejects my Blu-Ray media when IMGBurn accepts it. I have two different brands of Blu-Ray Media, and they both work great with IMGBurn, but DVDFab won't recognize them. So it isn't the media that's the problem, it is DVDFab.

Also, DVDFab works properly when I use DVD Copy, copies and hands the burn over to IMGBurn automatically without problems. Why only a problem with Blu-Ray?

DVDfab Bluray Copy won't recognize BD-R media

I found the same problem with trying to use DVDfab Bluray Copy: CLONE from one 25gb original movie disc to a blank BD-R 25gb disc.
At first I had my new PIONEER BDR-206 connected and had the same problem after the reading, it popped open the tray and asked for the media, when I put in the Sony Bluray BD-R 25GB disc it would say "that is not bluray media"...... I'd try the Verbatim BD-R 25GB discs and same thing. It didn't matter how many different disc I put it, it said the same..... "not bluray". I even updated the Pioneer to the latest firmware, but same thing happens.

I then connected my new LG BH10LS30 drive and tried the same process and it worked fine.......... it accepted my bluray discs.

So I'm taking the Pioneer drive back although I think it has something to do with DVDfab / Pioneer combination??

Also, the Pioneer drive would work fine when doing any burning using IMGBURN. It accepted all my bluray blanks from IMGBURN program.

I had this problem with an earlier version of DVDFab. It would reject all my BD-R discs, but the discs would burn with IMGBurn. Then somehow, it started working as it should.

The problem has returned when I have upgraded to the latest version. Only this time it hasn't started working again.

I had at first thought it might be because the Sony firmware wasn't recognizing discs, but at least one of my BD-R media is on the Sony approved media list. And then it works perfectly with IMGBurn.

You had the problem with a Pioneer drive, my problem is with a Sony Optiarc drive. I hope this can be fixed, because it is much more convenient to do the copy/burn process in one step.

Well lets start with first things first!! Post your logs from the burns that Fab rejected!! If you start up Fab and then pop in a blank BR what happens, also after your media is rejected and the drive opens up have you pushed close right away? I know a lot of the senior members use the pioneer drive!! Also another suggestion!! It could be your drive!!! They do wear out after time!! Here is an example!! I burn BDRE's and I use LG drives I had a BH08 and I would have to burn a BDRE and format 2-3x just to get the movie!! All would burn fine no errors but when I pop into the sammy I would get this disc cannot be played error!! So I would do the whole process over and over and finally I would get a working copy!! SO to rule all options out even talking to LightningUK on his forum about the problem, I went and picked up a new LGBH10! I have not had an issue at all!! I burn BDRE50 and 25 they play first time and in my buddy's PS3!!!

                  Thanks for your suggestions.

I think I know what is happening now. It takes longer for DVDFab (or the drive) to recognize BD-R media than DVD media (my theory.) After DVDFab encodes the disc, it ejects it and asks for BD-R media. It does not allow enough time for the drive to initialize the disc and rejects it before the drive is ready. I was able to get it to work when burning from a hard drive folder, as someone suggested above, if I inserted the disc before starting DVDFab. So the logs would be fine for that. I haven't tried it yet, but I think I will still have a problem when burning from disc instead of folder.

My drive is a new Sony Optiarc drive. It works just fine with IMGBurn or if I do the above procedure. For the same reason, it is not the media, either.

I wrote to DVDFab tech support and they recommended upgrading to the latest beta version to see what happens. I will try this soon.

                  p.s. What's a "sammy"?

Samsung! I guess for the time being and really the best way to save wear and tear on the drive is burn 50Gb to HDD then compress 50Gb to 25Gb on HDD then when thats done close Fab load up Imgburn and burn the BMDV file and certificate file and your done!

                      Blu-Ray media not recognized

I have been having the same problem for a long time also I always keep my programs up to date also firm ware up to date
The only time i seem to have the error saying the media is not blu-ray is when i try to do full disc with a lot of compression The best way i have found around this malfunction is to create an iso on the hard drive set at 25gb then open it back up with Fab and then burn to disc second part goes quick since it is already compressed

I have been using fab for about 6 years or more and i am sure they will rsolve this problem soon
