    slow compress????

i have scrolled through many posts, saw many problems similiar to my own, but no answer on fix. i have used dvd copy for some time now and found its ease of use awesome as i am not that tech savvy. i just bought blu-ray copy and attempted to copy Inception, after going very slow and freezing up after it stated it would take 22+ hours to complete the copy process alone - i read the forums and just put the whole thing on my hard drive, then tried to compress to 25gb in a different folder and same result, slow down and 22+ hours to finish the compression. my pc is newer, running windows 7 with a dual-core processor, 5 gb of ram - grafix card = GE force 9100, 500+GB of free HDD. im running with no programs running expect norton (which i tried turning off while i compressed but that didnt change anything), i tried unchecking the lightning recoding box to no avail, each time is the same, my cpu % jumps to 99% or so after the first 30 seconds or so and the bitrate starts around 5.0 MB/s or so then quickly drops and around the 3:30 time mark or so it drops to .5 MB/s. thats when the time jumps from a 8 hour or so completion time to 22 + hour just to compress. i have tried all the windows fixes to speed up my pc (adjusting for better performance, etc.) but that didnt do anything either. I'm posting my logs ( i think the right ones - im new at this) and i hope i have given all the information you need. please help. sorry if im posting too much but was afraid of posting too little. the first is me trying to compress and copy stright from blu ray disc to blu ray disc, the 2nd is me trying to compress from file to file (full disc to 25gb disc)

Your problem is you are compressing to BD25 straight from the Blu-ray with only a DUAL CORE CPU. What you should try is save the Blu-ray to hard drive as BD50 and then when that done you would use that just created folder as source and compress to BD25 and use the Blu-ray Drive as target if you burn.

Recommended CPU for Blu-ray is a QUAD CORE and above but since you have a GE force 9100 then you could enable CUDA as that card is a CUDA card I beleive and that will speed up the process some as well

i did save the whole disc to a file as a BD50 as stated in my post. I then tried to compress to BD25 into a new file (instead of attempting to burn yet) - that is the 2nd log i posted. the problem remains the same.

i didnt know about the quad-core recomendation, but thats a whole new set of issues for me, maybe in the future, but for now, CUDA is enabled on this card, is there anything else that can speed this up?

This may sound strange, but I think you should be moving the "other" way, ie., away from CUDA.
        Your time is excessive...period.

In Common Settings > A/V Codec
please select Software only for all entries, ie., Video Decoder and Video Encoder.
        Also leave Lightning Recoding unticked.

See what your times are on this go round and as previously, compress only from files already ripped to your hdd

CUDA is very much a work in progress and results vary widely user to user.
The 9100 is an onboard GPU and less than ideal when it comes to video encoding.

Is this an HP? the make/model or motherboard specs will be helpful.

thank you for any and all insight

yes, it is an HP. model name p6313w to be exact. windows 7 is 64 bit. here is the information from my motherboard and chipset....

          Motherboard
          System Board
          Manufacturer PEGATRON CORPORATION
          Product VIOLET6
          Chipset nVidia MCP78/77/72
          BIOS
          Vendor American Megatrends Inc.
          Release Date 01/19/2010
          BIOS Version String 5.14
          ROM Size 1.00 MB
          AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 215 Processor
          Name AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 215 Processor
          Cores 2
          Threads 2
          Temperature 22.250 C
          Current Speed 2.70 GHz
          Multiplier x 13.5 (4 - 13.5)
          Features MMX(+), 3DNow!(+), PSE36, x86-64, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4A, NX, SVM
          L1 Instruction Cache 2 x 64.00 kB
          L1 Data Cache 2 x 64.00 kB
          L2 Cache 2 x 512.00 kB

I will try it the way you stated and post the logs, although im pretty sure i have and it was no different, but for clarification, i will do it and post.

This may sound crazy, but i have a sneaking suspicion that my norton 360 product may have something to do with this, i disabled the internet traficking and firewall with no luck but found no other way to disable the internal monitering (if there is any, i think there is). im also gonna dig into this.

The option i never attempted was the video Encoder set to software only and the lightning recoding unchecked - (so all the options were set to software only) took the time all the way down from 22+ hours to a little above 4 hours - i can live with that. apparantly CUDA was slowing me down. i also had a successful burn with IMGBURN. I am a very happy customer now.

            Best Regards
