Main Movie Bluray Copy to ISO is freezing during playback

    Hi All

I am currently archiving my Bluray library by using Bluray copy of the Main Movie to ISO.

I have come across an issue with a couple of movies. Once the Main Movie is copied to ISO and played, at certain time positions in the movie (unique to each movie) the video and audi freezes, but the play time continues to increment.

I am using DVDFab 8.0.8.5 and playing my ISOs via Virtual CloneDrive and TotalMedia Theater 5. Some movies are ok, other are not.

    The two movies currently are:
    The Expendables
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

Consequently, I archived a fulle copy of "The Expendables" to ISO and so far I am not having any problems.

I am playing my movies from a share on my network.

i see some people have had freezing issues when backing up to DISC, so I am wondering is it is an archiving to main Movie issue.

    Thanks to all.

I wanted to update this thread to see if I can get some feedback.

So "The Expendables" Full Disc ISO played fine.

The Main Movie ISO of "Taken" got 1:06:00 or so into the movie when it froze. TMT 5 play time counter continued to count up, the video/audio was frozen and there was not network activity (38 Mbit/s to zero).

The "A-Team" Main Movie froze at 00:04:04.

"Twister", "Star Trek", "Casino Royale", " Q

In all these freezing cases, if you attempt to move the play marker beyond the the freeze point or Chapter Next, will not unfreeze playback.

I have checked (chkdsk) all 6TB of space and the files are intact.
I can replicate this issue on two machine with TMT 5 playing from local disk or from the network. I am using Virtual CloneDrive 5.4.5.0

    Any suggestions?

I wanted to say that the following movies are OK making an ISO from the Main Movie Mode so far.

      Twister
      Star Trek
      Casino Royal
      Quantum of Solace
      Secretariat

I gave DVDFab Virtual Drive a try, by mounting the Take ISO and playing it in TMT 5. At the 1:06:00 mark, TMT 5 freezes just like with Virtual CloneDrive.

So i am experiencing the the same issue as before.

I am going to download 8.0.9.0 and create some new ISOs of current "freezing" movies to see if that makes a difference. I will also try to may a folder copy and load through a miniso.

I have used 8.0.9.2 Qt to create a Bluray Folder of the movie TAKEN. I skipped ahead to 1:05:00 and allowed TMT5 to play. It played through the expected freeze point seemlessly.

          So my test parameters:
Created a Bluray folder of the Main Movie
Played a local copy using TMT5 without issue
Played a network copy using TMT5 without issue.

I tried to use the miniso, however it will not load the Bluray folder from the netowrk location.

          Michael.

I have upgraded to the latest DVDFab Virtual Drive and could play the TAKEN miniso from my network. I got further in the movie (past the 1:06:00 mark) when TMT5 froze. For this test I extracted the Main Movie to a Bluray folder with miniso.

The freeze point is not related to the network, as it can be reproduced at the source where the ISO/Bluray folder is made.

If anyone has A-Team or Taken on Bluray, have you made an image or folder from the main movie and successfully played it.

Further more, is there anyone out there that just takes the Bluray Main Movie instead of the Full Disc, especially if it is played of HDD.

i am trying to see if this is a local problem with my setup (Bluray drive, HTPC, NAS, etc) or a common problem.

            Thanks to all.

An update on this issue and my resolution

              All

So I continue to get a hit and miss on creating "freeze" free, Main Movie ISOs. My solution to freezing playback is to make a Full Disc ISO of the movie. I upgraded to 8.0.9.2 qt and still got freezing in titles, but in different places than ISOs made from 8.0.8.5.

So titles like Taken, A-Team, Harry Potter Part 7, Green Hornet will freeze during playback from local or network HDD using either VirtualClone Drive or DVDFab Virtual Drive (the freeze is in the same place, so I believe it is the ISO not the mounter).

Other titles (new and old) are not a problem, like Twister, 2012, Day After Tomorrow, Star Trek, Casino Royale and my latest Gnomeo and Juliet. I have created Main Movie ISOs that payback fine.

My goal to to have a "Main Movie" network library utilizing the 6TB of space I have wisely and not filling it up with useless trailers, menus, special features, etc (no offense to those who like the extras). I have archived my entire DVD collection this way.

Anyway, since there have been no responses to my issue, bar the one, I decided to post my resolution of sorts - Try Main Movie, if that prooves troublesome, then try Full Disc. Time consuming, but in the end I get close to what I want.

              Thanks
              M

                Hi mchristsen
Are you using the VSO burn engine that is bundled with Fab or ImgBurn to create you ISO?
If not ImgBurn please give it a try, you will find it here along with a tutorial on setting it up with Fab.

I am familiar with ImgBurn, however I am not creating Bluray Discs, unless ImgBurn is to be used to create the ISO file.

I am playing the ISO from the network loaded through an ISO mounter, so my goal is to completely eliminate the handling of discs for playback.

Yes, I understand what you are doing.
The VSO burn engine that is bundled with Fab creates the ISO file, so the answer is Yes ImgBurn will make the ISO file after the movie is saved to the temp folder.

OK, So I followed the instructions and set ImgBurn to be the default Writing Engine. I took The A-Team and converted the Main Movie to ISO. Process went without a hitch. I started playing the ISO and about 10 minutes in it froze (using TMT5). I started the movie over again and tried to skip to the second chapter and TMT5 showed me a frozen imange for about 5 seconds, then began playback from the beginning. I am playing the ISO from the local HDD of the machine that generated the ISO.

I wil try another movie, but I think that there is a problem in the extraction of the Main Movie from the Bluray when combining it to an ISO.

BTW, I am using the default Main Movie that DVDFab selects. I also remove other Audio Tracks than the main DTS-MA / Dobly TrueHD and all subtitles except for the first English subtitle.

                        M.

Tried "Tangled" today (Main Movie, DTS-MA Audio only, first English Subtitle, ISO output through ImgBurn), black screen/frozen at 00:01:17. i could skip to Chapter 2, but it played for about 15 seconds, then the video slowed down then froze. No HDD activity. I played this from my local HDD.

                          Michael.

                            Michael,
It seems your TMT5 chocking on HD audio. In theory, there are two immediate solutions:
                            (a) Update player. Looks like splitter isn't functioning right.
                            (b) Downgrade your audio, i.g. DTS-MA to DTS core)

If I create an ISO of the Full Disc, all is well with playback.
