Trouble backing up blu-rays

    Trouble backing up blu-rays

    I have been having trouble backing up any blu-rays for the past couple months. Since January, I was able to make good backups. I burn to the HD uncompressed in BD-50. Then compress to BD-25 from the HD and burn to a verbatim BD-R LTH Type disc using VSO Burner Engine. But now the burned disc in DVD player and computer says it is a unrecognized disc format. I have tried it on 4 different movies now and different versions of DVDFab and get the same results. Here is the VSO log

    I have tried Img burn and I get a playable disc but heavy pixels drop and heavy skipping and shuttering.
    Any suggestions?

      I have also checked the latest firmware for my LG BH10LS30 burner and it is the latest version 1.01.

        I see in the log that I am getting a Code 03 73 04 write error, PMA Update fail message during finalization. What is that?

          The log you posted is a VSO log. Are you using LTH media?

              Does anyone know what this means. "Code 03 73 04 write error, PMA Update fail message during finalization" I can't find out on the internet. My guess is I got a bad cake box of BD-25 from verbatim. I have always bought verbatim discs because of their high quality.
              Unless I hear from someone soon, I will get a different brand and try it.

                Tried to backup from a backup copy that works and still the same problem. I used ImgBurn this time. Here is the log-

                Does anyone see anything wrong here? I am using Verbatim BD-R 25g LTH Type. I got the burner at Christmas time and have update the firmware.

                  I think the initial VSO error "Write error, PMA update fail" represents a buffer underrun.
                  However, I don't see this on the Img burn log.

                  The 03 73 04 write error is usually seen with crappy meda and/or inappropriate burn speeds (usually too fast).

                  In your case, I'd say you're burner/firmware is unhappy with this media.
                  Why this suddenly started to occur in Jan I have no idea, but this is not the first time I've seen problems such as this or with this media.
                  This whole process is quite complicated and is far from static.

                  I never burn BD's (just view 'em from my hdds vis media players) so I'm not much help there, but I'd definitely try media other than the LTH variety.

                      I will try that tomorrow. I was thinking that may help. I think the problem is either the media (Verbatim) is bad??? or the burner is bad. Something changed in the past couple of months because I had no trouble before. I saw that my burner firmware changed in July. So I uninstall the burner and went back to the firmware when I bought it but no change. I then updated the firmware and still no change. The disc has the same problems with my Blu-Ray player on my computer and the Blu-Ray player on my TV. It does not matter if I compress or not. The disc is unplayable if I use the VSO burner and using the ImgBurn, I get a disc that plays but is heavily pixels and skips.

                          I just downloaded the version of ImgBurn. I will try it again. I have been trying to backup original several times and just once I used a backup copy to copy to see if compression was part of the problem. I will give you an update and the log info once it's done.

                            Same problem. Heavy pixels and skips with new ImgBurn version. Will go out today and get different type of media. Verbatim LTH used to work but is not working now. Here is the last log

                              I went out and got a 3pk of Verbatim 25gb 6x M*A*B*L discs. I was able to make a perfect backup copy. Thanks for your help and now I know it was the media that was the problem.
