BD-5 plays in software player but not set top player

Problem with Blu-Ray movie copy to BD-5. I copied a movie (main movie only) to BD-5, and the ISO plays on my computer using DVDFab Media Player, but the DVD burned from it doesn't play in my set top player. LG recognizes AVCHD then immediately warns "Check Disk!" and kicks out the tray.

I looked at 00000.m2ts with MediaInfo and discovered below. At first I thought the "overall max bitrate" of 48Mbps was the problem, but the actual bitrate is in spec, less than 18Mbps for the audio+video. So the BD-5 format compression obeys the spec for the VBR max bitrate calc:
    General
    ID : 0 (0x0)
    Complete name : E:\BDMV\STREAM\00000.m2ts
    Format : BDAV
    Format/Info : Blu-ray Video
    File size : 4.13 GiB
    Duration : 2h 6mn
Overall bit rate mode : Variable
    Overall bit rate : 4 665 Kbps
Maximum Overall bit rate : 48.0 Mbps

    Video
    ID : 4113 (0x1011)
    Menu ID : 1 (0x1)
    Format : AVC
    Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
    Format profile : High@L4.1
    Format settings, CABAC : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames : 2 frames
    Codec ID : 27
    Duration : 2h 6mn
    Bit rate mode : Variable
    Bit rate : 4 243 Kbps
Maximum bit rate : 17.5 Mbps
    Width : 1 280 pixels
    Height : 720 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 16:9
    Frame rate : 23.976 fps
    Color space : YUV
    Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0
    Bit depth : 8 bits
    Scan type : Progressive
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.192
    Stream size : 3.76 GiB (91%)
    Writing library : x264 core
    Color primaries : BT.709
    Transfer characteristics : BT.709
    Matrix coefficients : BT.709

Here is the MediaInfo for a home movie which plays on my LG set top (but ironically won't play in DVDFab Media Player):

    General
    ID : 1 (0x1)
    Complete name : F:\BDMV\STREAM\00000.m2ts
    Format : BDAV
    Format/Info : Blu-ray Video
    File size : 3.91 GiB
    Duration : 44mn 51s
Overall bit rate mode : Variable
Overall bit rate : 12.5 Mbps
Maximum Overall bit rate : 35.5 Mbps

    Video
    ID : 4113 (0x1011)
    Menu ID : 1 (0x1)
    Format : AVC
    Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
    Format profile : High@L4.0
    Format settings, CABAC : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames : 2 frames
    Format settings, GOP : M=2, N=15
    Codec ID : 27
    Duration : 44mn 51s
    Bit rate mode : Variable
    Bit rate : 11.8 Mbps
Maximum bit rate : 12.0 Mbps
    Width : 1 440 pixels
    Height : 1 080 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 16:9
    Frame rate : 29.970 fps
    Color space : YUV
    Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0
    Bit depth : 8 bits
    Scan type : Interlaced
Scan order : Top Field First
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.253
    Stream size : 3.69 GiB (94%)

The general ID flag is different. Both list overall max bitrate as a number way above spec, but maybe it's such a tiny burst that there's never a buffer underrun? The Blu-ray copy is missing the GOP info from the header, not required? 1280x720p24 is supported by High@4.0, but High@4.1 support is required by blu-ray spec, so player should not have a problem with it, right? Or is the problem not in the stream, but in the file structure? By actual experience, the LG will play BD-5 encoded with MultiAVCHD in Blu-Ray mode, AVCHD mode, or Strict AVCHD mode.

This discovery stems from trying to figure out why my BD-5 ISOs made with MultiAVCHD won't play in DVDFab Media Player. DVDFab created BD-5 ISO plays in DVDFab Media Player, but disc does not play on LG player. MultiAVCHD created BD-5 ISO won't play in DVDFab Media Player, but disc does play on the LG. Both should play on both!

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Max, not sure about reading and interpreting the log files but I've had similar results with DVDFab Blu-ray copy.

I've backed up a number of BD titles and all play without fail on my LG BD player until Battleship. Nothing I did was any different in making the backup except the BD won't play on my LG. The LG reads the disc as a BD but spits it out with a "check disc" message. However, that same BD copy plays perfectly on my PS3 and a Sammy BD player I have.

    Go figure
