MIB 3 Copies Main Movie in Several Streams

Hi. I had this issue happen on several movies I've backed up, using a number of different DVDFab versions.

The main movie is copied successfully, but instead of the usual one file in Stream - which my media player happily plays - it copies a few files instead. For example, MIB 3 has five files in Stream. The first one is around 19GB, whilst the second is 2.54GB etc.

If I'm at my computer, I can select all the files in say, PowerDVD, and the entire movie plays. However, on my WD Media player, when there are a number of files in stream, it only plays the first...so 49mins into the movie, it ended. So it's not finding the smaller files in Stream, when there are several in the folder.

Most movies I copy in this manner - BD50 - render one file in Stream and my media player plays this successfully. Really pleased with the quality and sound.

However, I'm curious as to why DVDFab copies certain movies - and there hasn't been many recently - in this way?

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Thanks

Yeah, it depemds how the studio authors the disk and is beyond Fab's control unless you use the Ripper Module instead of the Copy module.

      work around

I figured out a work-around. By putting the smaller files into separate folders, my media player sees them and I can then play it okay...it's only a bit annoying in that I have to then select the next file...not difficult I know but breaks the flow of the movie.

Maybe it's something Fab can find a solution to?

      Cheers

They already have. It's called the "RIPPER" module as I told you...

What you are experiencing is Seamless Branching. Many studios do this to add extras or alternate endings to movies. Do a search on seamless branching for a better understanding. As mentioned by the other guys, use the Ripper portion of Fab. It will string the .m2ts files together creating one continuous file.

Hi. Thanks for responding....I don't use Ripper as it has never copied the DTS soundtrack...5.1 Dolby yes, but not DTS. That's why I don't use it.

Copying the main movie from 'Blul-ray 'copy' usually gives me exactly what I want...just the movie without bonus files and a great audio track.

My experience with some disks as I have mentioned, seems to end with a number of smaller files, which my media player does not recognize unless, as I mentioned, I place them into their own folders.

I was just curious as to why it does it with some disks? For example, Men in Black 3 and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

If I select the 'main movie' to copy, then usually it creates just one large file. I understand if I'm copying the full disk, then I will get the extras as well.

Just did some research as suggested on Seamless Branching...perhaps when I was ripping in the past, I was using an incorrect profile...looks like that perhaps mts and 'passthrough' might get me DTS. I'll experiment when I next try.

            Thanks

Have you tried ripping the main movie and saving as an iso image? I'm sure your media player will play it mine does and it has DTS audio. And it's one file.

no I haven't tried saving it as an ISO...not sure how to do that...what's the process?

I just tried a few movies ripping in an m2ts: passthrough and that worked okay for a couple of them...single file and DTS. However, when it came to 'Brave', the sound was dropping in and out. Copying as a main movie, broke it into several smaller files with the main being around 19gbs...but at least it's usable. I vaguely remember having this issue a while back, which is why I ended up copying them, which apart from split files on occasion, yields the best results.

The process is the same just press this button and select a location:

Ripping main movie that has Seamless Branching into an .iso file results in the movie pausing and cutting out in spots. At least on my AIOS media player it does. Looks as if similar things are happening with the original poster as well. I use Ripper and choose the .m2ts passthrough profile and I get DTS. This has worked best for me. Would be nice if Fab could remedy this issue in the regular Blu ray copy mode.

Thanks for the jpg on how to do the ISO process...initially didn't recognize the software until I realized it's the new 9 version. Will give this a go just to experiment. I'm thinking however if the rip gives staccato sound drop-outs for the particular movie, then the ISO will just be the same.

I'm not sure what advantage ISO will give anyway?

'Would be nice if Fab could remedy this issue in the regular Blu ray copy mode.' I agree with aust3333.

Thanks for all input. Will continue to chase best sound/quality and necessary workarounds.

                      Cheers

I guess I haven't run across one with the seamless branching yet, I don't fool with many Blu-Ray discs.
