    A quick question about Cinavia

I have my copy of Expendables2 that I am trying to back up; I have compressed it to a BD25 and the cinavia kicks in on my standalone player after about 20 minutes. So, my question is, can I CLONE the movie onto a 50GB disc and since it is a 1:1 copy, will that keep the cinavia from activating?

No it wont be a 1.1 copy as you need to remove the protection to back it up..

No, find a player that is not infected with cinavia

Buy a Media Player and then not only do you not have to worry about Cinivia, you don't have to worry about buying and burning disks.

And buying media players and using hard drives for storage will be much cheaper than making disks.

At 80 cents a disc it is not cheaper. Hard drive space is about 1.20 per movie.
It may be better in some ways, but cheaper is not one of them. Also, if you lose a hard drive you lose a bunch of movies. If a disc goes bad you lose one. I have done my collection both ways, I prefer discs. Easier to loan to friends and relatives also. Just my 2 cents.

If you reduce your movies to 8.5 gigs like i do then hard drive space is very cheap i have 200 3d movies on a 3t drive with 1t left for more movies.

The whole set up is the size of a book and can be brought anywhere easily. The 8.5 gig 3d files look great on my 60 inch plasma and my 8 foot screen using a Sony projector.

Having friends not to be able to borrow disks is a great bonus of having a media player as the borrowed disks almost always come back dirty with fingerprints and scratches that can effect future playing that you won't know about till you play the disk again and that's if you even get the disk back. Many people will agree with me here.

As far as the drive goes it simple to back up the whole drive to another drive or on line storage in the cloud etc.A Seagate 3t drive is $120 divided by 300 movies 8.5 gigs =4 cents a movie even buying a second 3t drive to back up the first drive = 8 cents a movie a lot cheaper this way.

I will let you in on a little secret i have done this test so many times with the same results.I take a group of people show the movie in 50gig full hi def form then after compare it with 8.5 gig side by side 1080i hi def. copy and then switch back and forth between the two to see which is the better picture and the results are most people can't tell the difference when watching between the two.

No one was able to see the difference between a 50 gig and 25 gig full 3d copy also.So to each his own.

                  @glenns.

After many years of doing this for literally thousands of titles, I wholeheartedly agree with your appraisal on quality on a variety of screens up to and including 60"... I did similar tests a few years ago with similar results coz I got accused of being a "Blind Old Fart"!! by my family. (That all now own Media Players and Hard Disks)

Your maths on pricing is certainly in the ballpark and there is also the added bonuses of convenience, time saved and the quandry of whether the disk is OK and will retain the burn over a period of time.

Anybody that does not back up their hard disks is a retard.

You need to redo your math. 4 cent per movie times 300 movies is only $12. You are spending 40 cent per movie. 300 times .40 equals $120. So if you throw in the back-up drive the cost is the same at .80 per movie. Plus I get 25 gig movies at that price. So, like I said it is not cheaper to do it that way. Like you said to each his own.

The number 300 movies was a low estimate it will hold more as some of my disks are 25 gig full 3d and a few 50 gig. Also how long do you think your laser in your burner is going to last burning all those disks that's is a cost factor your not looking at.

Don't forget the extra electric costs and time of burning those disks.
What do you use to store all those plastic disks in sleeves that cost money also.

Your also wasting so many gigs if you have a 50 gig disk and the movie is 30 gigs theirs 20 gigs in the trash. My gigs are for the most part used to the maximum capacity of the hard drive and their prices keep coming down.

Also how long is the data on the disks going to last something you don't know in the long term. Not to mention the environmental cost of producing all those disks and sleeves or plastic storage boxes.

Oh i didn't tell you about data recovery or in the cloud storage for the drive instead of backing up the drive you can get data recovery that includes getting the data off a broken drive and put on a new drive for :

Data Recovery Service & Product Protection
                      $24.99 for 2 years
                      $34.99 for 3 years

                      Data Recovery Service
Hard drive failure, virus attack, software issues, etc. can all cause data loss which is recoverable with our data recovery solution. Receive a replacement product with your restored data on the new drive.
                      Product Protection
Peace of mind above and beyond the manufacturer’s limited warranty. Protection for your product due to accidental damage or other mechanical issues, starting the day you purchase.(Theirs cheap insurance for your drive)

The whole drive and media player can store your entire collection in 1 place
indexed and in order portable to bring to a friends house work or while traveling.

So my friend the answer is clear with hard drive always near thousands of hours of movies at hand in one place very cost effective and much cheaper than disks if you don't have a second drive as backup.

You don't have to worry about playing fox movies with Cinavia. Some day the non effected players will all break and you can't replace them then what you gonna do about all the big Fox movies you can't play unless your near a computer.

Also try to find a movie when you have 300 plus disks mine are in order and can be selected and show on screen in seconds by the time you find a movie in that size collection i will be well into watching the movie before you find and load it in your player.

The choice is clear media players are dear and it's all possible because of Fab short for Fabulous or i like to think it stands for (find anything better?) or (fetch another beer) and watch your fabulous movie. So like i said to each his own i made my choice based on good reasons that I outlined above.

It`s your money. Waste it as you see fit. Like I said, I`ve tried it both ways and for me discs are way better and cheaper.

Maybe to you but i have to agree with glens and greg disc are a complete waste of money just give it a few years watch the die fade out of those cheap disc you buy
Wile we buy hdds at a cheaper price compared to bd blanks i go a little more extreme than ops i get all my mkv rips under 2 gigs now do the math on a 2tb hdd go buy thosedisc

And i always have a back up hdd
In my case buying 2 hdds is still cheaper than buying good quality blanks

                          Old farts know the best

@glenns ain't it nice to have a digital library instead of a bookshelf or ugly looking cases of scratched faded disc and what is cinavia i dont get that playing over my xbmc media center(s) and waiting for vidon.me stb civavia free

                            @Jonaton

It's even better when you have your Media Library all catalogued with artwork, plot, stars, genre, date etc, etc showing up graphically on your media player. All done semi-automatically!

Disks then seem like "Dark Age SH1T"!!!
